im installing the 454 that came out of my burb, into my k5, it has some sort of rv cam that was installed because the original cam was too big for the burb. my k5 is down close to 5000lbs, has a sm465, 4.88s and 39s.

im looking for a bit more midrange to high end performance from it. i wont be shifting it past 5500, but i want it to pull hard all the way to the shift point.
the basic engine specs are .030 over, large oval heads, intake, q-jet headers, 2 1/2" exhaust.
i was thinking somthing in the 224-230 deg. range would be about right for what i want. thoughts?

I would look more to the 224 duration but being you want it to pull to 5500 the second one would be ok. Bigger than I would pick for a truck. My current 454 has a 224 duration marine cam and if the carb was bigger would most likely pull well to 5000+.

Ya, you better mod the qjet so it will idle and gets rid of the dead spot it will have.

I've used Comp Cams in many of motor I built. I used the Extreme 268 cam in a 406, and sounded saweet and had gobs amount of torque and power thru the entire RPM range. Was even injected. I wanted to use the same cam in my 454 build, but builder told me could save a little if I used a Sealed Power cam. It sounds real good, has good power all around.

I love the sound of this motor, 468 with the 268 Extreme cam....

I've got a BBC cam in the box ready to ship. I will get the specs out of it and get back with you.

that is more like I would pick but I think he wants one that shakes at idle and trys to twist the tach needle off.

almost. i want more of a performance engine than a truck engine. trying to find the happy medium between the 2 without going overboard. this will be my fill the tank on payday and drive the snot out of it until it gets low on fuel vehicle. then waiting until payday to drive it again.

in reality i think that would be a great cam for the vehicle. probably about the same that is in there right now.
i got the engine on the stand and partially torn down today. maybe i can find a number on the current cam.

pm me a price on the cam k30guy.

I've got this cam and it's very streetable

That's a sweet cam, but a hyd. Roller is a little out of my budget unless I find a used setup.

You should have just sold me that cam, cut out the middle man and all the shipping! Ha ha. Well, I'm still undecided at this point.

Keep in mind its a brand spanking new cam and its cheaper than market value.

And I don't need it so buy it so I can clean out the shop.
