Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

Ive bought a set of "windstar" fans from a salvage yard one time. Guy said he already had a set pulled and I could have them cheap. Turned out they werent windstar fans but grand am fans. I got them and and when he got a windstar set in he called me and gave them to me at no extra charge:thumb:

I used the grand am fans on my dd/occasional wheeler with a mild 350 and stock radiator. I dont do any slow rock crawling type stuff in it but I do occasionally pull my other truck to trails I cant drive it too and it never gets above 190 with a 180 t-stat

Windstars for sure. I can get them all day for 20 bucks. I run the small fan most of the time. Keeps it at like 160 all day no matter what the temp.

And they kick ass too Jess, as long as you remember to turn them on.

So you guys with windstars, how loud are they.

I don't really remember hearing Daves at Blazer Bash but then again I was pretty much drawn to the rumble coming from his exhaust:D

Like I said my biggest annoyance with electric fans is noise

The only time I hear mine is when I shut the engine down. But then again, full long tubes to thrush welded makes it hard to hear anything.

Not very loud, when I run my small one only I can barely hear it both of them on I can hear them but no louder then the engine.

With the engine running, I dont' hear mine in the seat, and they both run at the same time. You can definitely hear them without the engine on though, but maybe only slightly more than Brents CJ from last year.
I'm fine with the noise, as long as I remember to turn on the ignition switch so they will run when needed. they cool my engine w/ reserve. When we went out the first day, I forgot to turn the keyed ignition to run them, it hit 230+, and when I turned them on, you could see the engine cool down...about 3-5 minutes to get back below 190.

I have forgot to turn mine on twice motor got hot, not too hot though, popped the hood, let it idle, turned both fans on it cooled down pretty fast.

Onto my favorite part, got most of the grille mounted today.

Don't have all the screws in there yet and the middle strap in the top pic will use screws on both sides ( tube side and the grille side)

5 mounting points should make it pretty strong overall, I just don't want it to rattle out or anything.

All the mounting points are stock on the grille

Still have a bit of cleaning up to do trim some edges up but the grille is now being held on with screws not just propped up there.

Onto headlights and winch mounting

oh my goodness :eek1: I finally get the grille mounted and don't post an acutall shot of it.

Good Grief half the reason I started this was cause I was looking at Horton one day ( as ya do) and I said I really need to get a grille on this thing

Here ya go!

All mounted up and in its full glory!!!!!!!!! ( angels singing from heaven and trumpets blasting triumphantly)

Perhaps I missed it somewhere, but are you still going to be running any headlights?

Looking good Eric. Did this lower the front of the hood?

I wanted too, but it would have required leaning the radiator back, I didn't want to do this. In hindsight a quick trip to a wrecking yard would have netted me a windstar fan and I could have done it. But I didn't. I have been looking over this hood for 4 wheeling seasons now and am pretty used to it.

It actually dropped just about half an inch but not enough to be of any significance

Perhaps I missed it somewhere, but are you still going to be running any headlights?

In a sense yes. Going to be running some 55 watt driving lights. They will pass for headlights at night. I have 2 sets that are rectangular and will be mounting both of them. One for just normal headlights and the other to come on with the high beam switch.

I am actually going to add back in front turn signals too. My taillights work and other than bumper/fender/mudflap violations I am legal to run in Idaho.

Oh wait I don't have windshield wipers anymore. So I am sure I would get pulled over if passed by a trooper for the most part they can't issue me a citation that involved a moving violation nor can they technically tell me I can't drive the vehicle

Looking at other pics I have kickin around I may have to narrow the hood just a touch more to close up the gap at the sides of the grille.

No biggie only like an inch on either side.

Have to see after I am done swapping fenders around.

Eric, are you still going to use the bungee cords for winch mounting, or are you going with Zipties this time?
