Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

He cut the fenders and stretched them with extra material.:weld:

Yep if you look careful you can see the weld lines in them. I really hope to update this thread soon good grief really need to buckle down and get the new sliders and cage done

BTW I think adding the material to the fenders is worth it if you have some spare fenders laying around wasnt too hard, of course we werent concerned too much with the looks of it:D

Sick truck!! so i'm curious about the narrowed front end. How much did you narrow it? how did you get your fenders to line up with the doors so well? and do you still have the heater box and everything?

Still have the stock heater box and its an ac unit so its huge. Not sure how much we narrowed it was a while ago pretty much cut the hood where we liked it and then made everything fit.

see the other posts for the fenders I will see if I can find some pics of them

Ya nice rig Eric. I actually saw a pic of Norton somewhere else on the forum and I thought you had just done some work to your Blazer the orange threw me off. It's looking awesome. That thing should wheel purty good. Stoked to see the cage.

So a little update, actually a change of plans.

I love the way the truck looks now but to keep the 44s out of the body it doesn't leave me with much uptravel. I don't like that.

I love how low it turned out.

So I am going to trim the fenders(and footwells) more and let my springs go into negative arch. I may pull a couple more leafs from another flat pack I have laying around to help with the spring lasting a little while without giving me more height. That will be pretty soon.

I am also going to boatside and after staring at a couple pics of it today I decided against the exo that I started and then pulled off. I am a tall guy and with the bench in there, no way my head would clear an interior cage. So going to find some buckets put them as low as possible even cutting the floor out if I have too. Do an interrior cage with a hoop behind the cab that sticks out just past the body in a couple places. Still want funtioning doors (probably some type of half door) with the boatside. So I am thinking a window that snaps up like an old jeep window. Oh yes I am now excited about this truck hopefully in the next 6 months it will go through some changes but retain the same overall look

Now I just need to get the motor pulled out of my flatbed get it into my crewcab. Get the trans and t-case in the crew cab put the new front clip...................................well mabye alot of changes in the next year.

Off to the garage I go:D

What is the paint color on that trans? I hope you dont mind but I may copy your color combo there, I was already planning on painting the Blazer orange, but am in the process of cleaning up and painting the tranny and tc and like the color of yours. (im a big Clemson fan and ormer student there so the colors are perfect)

X 2.....I will be following this thread also. I was carefully looking at potential cut lines when I recently installed my transmission cooler and had the front plastic off.

Okay wow I forgot I started this thread, I am going to go through pics and see what I can't dig up. From start to finish on Horton

Any luck finding the pichers?

Here is a couple from BB10:

HORTON rocks!

I guess you'll have to keep bugging Eric about that....those are some I took when I was with him in Moab....he even let me have a shot at that hole on Pritchett....Horton made it look easy. Eric has built a simple yet very functional truck.
Keep buggin him, because this is a very effective, budget build.

i remember reading your thread after BB and thought how good it looked. today i went hunting for the build thread and came up short. hopefully he's still subscribed to his own thread. lol

Okay now that this thread is back up to the top. I will update with some pics.

Like I said this truck did not start out as mine, a buddy wanted to build it my wife at the time was pregnant with our daughter when we started the build and was very tired so I got most night free to go work with him on it.

So this is what we started with a nice 1987 k1500 longbed. Totally stock

I don't have alot of pics of when it was at Pats garage (my buddys name is Pat) they seem to have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

The plan was 52s up front and 63s in the back with a 60 front and 14 b rear. Shooting for between a 120" wheelbase. Pretty simple stuff really.

Being that money is always short with projects such as these we did everything ourselves.

We took 10" out of the frame (sorry no pics of that) and started boxing the rear of the frame Building spring hangers and such

Here are some pics of the front and rear hangers

Here we go....Saweet!
Eric you need a thread like Shaun....all your projects in one thread.

I move to slow. Hopefully the dually thread will get a huge update in the next 3 months.

The Jimmy thread will be a slow build but I will update as repairs and modifications go on.

Now back to Horton, so after much time spend welding and grinding and stuff we pushed it out of the garage. It looked like this

hortonstage1front.jpg

hortonstage1.jpg

The gas tank was a stock blazer tank. Factory TBI so we found a tbi blazer tank to retain reliability. It as also easier than building a gas tank and cheaper than a fuel cell. The gas tank we mounted right behind the cab

This was done to improve the overall weight distribution and keep the center of gravity very low.

Now bear in mind when we were building this truck it was intended to be driven to the trails.

So Horton (before he was Horton) in the first stage. With no bedsides a full cab and the front end not narrowed yet.
