Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

I would make some deal on he Detroit. I would do drive slugs too might even go full hydro too, brothers has a orbital so I'm like halfway there.

lets fix both of those sluts and sell them to someone who doesn't wheel as hard and or doesn't have such big tires on a stock 60. Hey Keith you want a Detroit for the burb? :pimp:
I would like to hear what you think really trumps a Detroit? Also the definition of wheeling hard.

And in Norby's words " What are these hubs you speak of?"

the yukon grizzly is pretty sweet, it has a better design but functions pretty much the same as a Detroit, obviously an arb would be bitchin.

as for the definition of wheelin hard, see Erics photobucket acct, he must not have posted that pic of horton on the waterfall on Hal Johns, or our local trail here, blacks.

Keith the detroit is sitting on the bench waiting to go in, does it go in horton or the burb? :dunno:

The grizzly is supposed to be pretty sweet, arb, mehhhh to many parts to go wrong, just something else to remember to turn on. Maybe for a daily or street driven rig. No offense to Eric, he wheels hard, but there are a lot of people that wheel just as hard or even harder. Think KOH and in competitions. The Detroits are a very time proven locker. I've seen his pics, and talked with him before.
Keith, I would pick that thing up in a heart beat.

My vote is the burb  throw the 5:13 in too and I will look for some 35 spline outers and some drive flanges.

Crap the 5;13 are still here :doah:

Keiths burb is a bastard child, he can't use my detroit, he has a high pinion 60 he needs a 4.10 and down carrier, both mine are 4.56 and up.

@Scott yah I know they are a good locker but in my case where I can't afford to upgrade shafts just yet it has become problematic.

Unfortunately I can' afford to build things in the "proper" order, the only thing for Horton I have outright bought is the doubler kit. Everything else has been full trades or trade for work or partial trades and cash or something like that.

there are a lot of peeps in your school of thought with regards to the ARB, seals, compressor, air line to get hung up on things, to each his own. having been around ARB's i like them, selectability is where its at, its fully locked or fully open, so its going to be predictable. I realize Eric isn't the gnarliest dude of all time ever since the beginning of the world, he is old and brain damaged if we are being honest lol. but he wheels just as hard or harder than anyone around here, and we really do have some pretty tough **** out here, you should come check it out.

not bagging on the detroit as a concept or a design, they don't break out the side gear in a d44 for example, or obv in a 14 bolt for another. but they break the side gears out of the d60 version when you shock load them from breaking an axle shaft, hub or ujoint. Thats why the grizzly was designed to fix that problem, so in short I think we can both agree that the yukon would be an upgrade. unfortunately come to find out Keith your High pinion frontend that came from an unmentionable brand of vehicle takes a 4.10 carrier, this one won't fit. I was getting ready to go steal it for you lol.

x2, but aren't we all or we wouldn't have the 4x4's we do. :D

Oh yeah. Agree.
I have been around a few arb's too, and that's why I lean the other way. Great for streetable JK's. When it comes to using the skinny pedal, I want my junk to work. The biggest thing is what eric said

Everything out there has some sort of downfall, this is the detroits, you need upgraded shafts to make it bullet proof.

I would like to come over there someday, but we are hitting South DAkota again this june, and then will be moving to Co in June or July, then BB in Sept. So this years schedule is full up and it's just getting warm out.

I blame my bad driving on my damaged brain all the time Jon:D:D

I used to be the same as you Scott with the ARB then I got to drive a cherokee in Moab for several days with em front and rear, fell in love with em.

So I do like the ARBs alot that would be my preferred diff but in all reality I need to just be carefull for a while get drive flanges and one more 35 spline outer and that will help a ton in the breakage dept.

I think wheeling overall has gotten harder over the years, I remember the days when a stock 60 was almost considered bomb proof.

Of course in those days Horton would be considered a radical build, when now its really just kind of run of the mill

So lets plan something next year say Junish? Get Norby to bring his junk down, you guys will have a blast here. Maybe get a couple of colorado guys up here.

That would be cool

Most of our trails are wtihin an hour, plus we can take our trucks out to the dunes and piss off all the quad guys and rails!

That would be a fun trip. Maybe over there instead of a SD run next year. I'm sure we could get Norby and probably yates to come over some weekend. Funny it is about the same drive from CO as it is here.
You might PM norby and ask where he got the last set of drive flanges from for a guy over in Gillette. It was some dude in Utah, was a pretty smoking deal. We each picked a spare slug at the same time too cause of the price.

I got the guys phone number at the shop I think. Anthony got a full flange setup for like 160 I think.

Pm it to me buddy.

Hopefully be getting these sooner than later, think I just scored another job that is quick and easy money

Now on to more updates, locker fixed all buttoned up ready to go wheelin tomorrow

Kristle is coming with me so planning on letting her drive most of the trail, she really needs to get back into driving

Two words for your locker problem ole buddy...weld spiders. :thumb:

dude Horton can't turn when the detroit side gear is broken, the ram just pushes the worn out ass springs sideways lmao. needs linked in the front, full hydro, then maybe welded.

Great 2 smarasses muckin up my thread. :haha::haha:

Mitch wheelin Horton with just a front locker sucks in the turning dept, Jon wheeled with me alot with the broken side gear thing that stayed locked up.

IT SUCKED. Yes full hydro links chro mos, etc etc etc. Anyone wanna lend me a couple grand?
