Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

I just helped a friend change his timing on his 383 in his 92 chevy to pass smog and I had to disconnect a brownish/tan with a black stripe wire to keep the computer from overriding the changes I was mechanically making at the distributor. Nothing to do with your 87 harness, just thought it was a funny coincidence carry on.

EDIT: I just looked at your pics again and the wire in his 92 had the same exact connector on it. Do you have to diconnect a wire to adjust the timing in 87-88's too? Could be the same wire.

Pretty sure its the same deal Avery, I think my two wires from the bulkhead i have figured out.

So tonight I am going to make a list and concentrate on that list. I was all over the place today.

Got lots done.

Made some progress on the dash

And my helper today, who was out in the garage in pretty cold weather by choice for about 5 hours today, her putting the nuts on the back of the gauges

I also pulled my detroit out going to take it apart tomorrow and see whats up and get parts ordered Monday

I like the dash, clean and simple.

Thanks man I will actually redo most of it, I was just trying to get a feel for what I like, the panels are not cut out very precisely so there are gaps and some of the dimple dies are a touch uneven, that will drive me nuts if I leave it.

Yah I am really liking it.

Sooner than later going to build a glove box of sorts on the passenger side, I asked my wife what she wanted over there, she said "Why I am going to be driving, what do YOU want over there?"

I want a glovebox :D

Wow everyone said and everything I read said clocking the winch is no problem, what a pain. Took me way longer than I wanted to. In addition when I got it all back together I realized that I had gone one position too far, the freespool lever would hit the winch mount big time. :doah::doah:

At this point I put the winch on with the grille just to see what else of the grille I was going to have to cut and I decided I really like where the lever was, if I could get it to work where it was I wouldn't have to cut the grille at all for the winch.

Besides how often do you get to cut on little hole and use dang near every cutting tool you have at least once:D

The cutting commenced this winch plate was built to take it so I had to cut through multiple layers connected to a peice of rec tubing, to a couple of braces it took forever

Plated it all in and some creative time with the grinder and a roloc flap wheel on a die grinder and this is what I came up with.

Lever in free spool

Lever engaged

Turned out pretty nice if you ask me.

Time for some lighting up front too

2012-01-15_22-35-50_791.jpg

So I pretty much have the front end buttoned up, winch is mounted ( need to spool the cable) grille is mounted, lights are in ( still need to be wired) radiator is mounted, need to double check I didn't forget anything to weld.

Still need to mount up some hood pins and the fenders.

So this is how Hortons new front end looks

2012-01-16_01-24-36_86.jpg

That is everything bolted down and in place where it needs to be, got to take it all apart to paint tomorrow and get the lights wired up.

Side view, this view is 80% of the reason I embarked on this whole redo the radiator, move the winch journey. The winch moved back almost 5", the fairlead is way more protected now, although I may build a small front bumper now to help protect the control box for the winch.

I also got a bunch of the wires tucked up out of the way, still need to a bit more and wire gauges but this round is nearly done.

Oh yah and put the a working detroit back in, that is hopefully on its way

Lookin good man. I like the winch lever fix, good thinkin and looks pretty good as well. And its a shiny handle, I LIKE SHINY! :D

Lookin good...nice and tucked in there. :thumb:

Bowtie on the hood goes nice with the GMC grill.

I was wondering how long it would take someone to notice that, that hood ornament is staying too, its the best place to wrap the winch remote around

and thank you

Looking good, I like what you did with the front end. The dash looks like it will turn out pretty cool too

More done tonight, nothing really picture worthy.

Driver side bumpstop mount,

2012-01-17_00-52-34_593.jpg

You can see my old bumpstop mounts in this pic, they sucked coudn't tell if the rubber was on there or not, harsh harsh landing.

My new bumpstops should put an end to harsh landings :D

Trying to figure out a way to make the passenger side one look cool.

haven't got a way yet

It's all looking pretty good Eric, nice job. Looking forward to the finished (for now) pics.

The winch mount and dash are looking pretty cool Eric, Bailey looks right at home working in the shop!
