Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

The winch pulled good!
So...you going out again next weekend?:D

Gonna spend the next couple weekends fixin stuff, but lets say middle of June!

Here are some more pics from a front veiw of the actual roll over, kind of gives more of a fell for how far I actually fell

Next pic is where it held for just a couple seconds, I probably could have still saved it right here but look where I am and I am looking at where I think I am going, bracing for impact was all that was on my mind. It had also settled a bit here I remember thinking, well don't touch anything this is as far as we are going! Boy was I wrong

All over at that point, brace for impact and hope the cage holds. I held onto the wheel Leah held onto the harnesses and we both came out pretty darn good for what it was

Getting pulled out by a Jeep, not really embarrassing at all since no one else wanted to even try what I did :D:D

BTW what did I learn from this rollover. First and foremost if you are going to do something stupid, your cage better be strong!

Second always wear your harnesses. If I had only had my lap belt on I would have been flung all over the place and likely been seriously injured.

Third make sure your ammo cans lids are on tight. Nothing fell out, except for the tools in the ammo can where I had not got the lid fully latched. If you are doing something like this get everything that can fall on you out of your rig.

Fourth man I really enjoy doing dumb things like this!

Fifth, I know the line now, stay tuned (much later) for successful negotiation of this particular obstacle

I have a few that I am going to send in for calender pics.

See if I can make it 3 years in a row!

Yah engine cage saved the radiator the neck is a little crushed but its not leaking. Still its going to need fixed.

I am going to add some to the engine cage too, air cleaner is a little bent up:D

We had to winch it a bit to get the nose to fit in a hole so it would flop over like it did. If that hadn't of worked we had thought about cutting the cage off and trying to get it out between 2 rocks. Not alot of ways out of where I was

Stay tuned for a new cage build, the way my b pillar is bent I can't just replace the bent tubes. Since EVERYTHING hooks into that dang b pillar its going to be new cage time

I think fat people need more than a aluminum grant steering wheel lol, that one was pretty bent up, and it bent back a little to easy for my liking. you should probably replace that. with regards to the engine cage heck yeah, the stock core support would have never stood up to that, keep in mind we rolled it back over right on the winch and that hoop in the front, the hood wasn't really damaged all that much until the recovery operation.

Eric, Amen on the belts....I was thinking the same thing on Chewy....I wanted to stay planted in that seat if SHTF....Also did you kill the engine at any point before being upside down, or does it still have the oil pressure kill switch on it?

Oh, and at least you didn't break the windshield!

Dave I turned it off as soon as the roll stopped. I don't know if it even had time to lose oil pressure. I actually put it in park and turned it off first thing when we stopped.

It was still running at the bottom of the drop.

I knew I would have fluids leaking and didn't want any chance of a spark lighting off leaking fuel.

I think the future holds some type of fuel cell and rollover type valves on all the tubes coming out of it.

Plus common breather hoses with tip over valves on them.

Thats another thing I learned that we probably all ignore to a point, if you are upside down there can be serious injurys had if you have trans fluid or fuel spilling on you.

My trans was leaking quite bad and I very nearly got burned bad on my leg because of it but noticed what was going on and moved my leg

when I flopped my Jeepster on its lid, the stock fuel filler ran out and down the rail of the top and into the pass compartment....we got the hell outta there quick.
Your right...those things are great to think about...I got a vent/tip-over valve on my tank that ends up above the tailight, between the inner and outer panels. Right now I only have a vent filter on the drivetrain...need to run them to a check valve/vent like Kert has.

Wow Eric. That was a pretty nasty one. Glad you're OK for the most part or at least no more messed up than you were before.:thumb:

Great pics. Glad you and the girl are ok. That was a hell of a drop on the roof. Wish I could have been in there! Pretty soon, their will be no sheet metal on Horton. He will be nude.

Damn, finally got to watch the vid. Scary stuff dude, glad all is well. Looks like you built a solid cage and it worked exactly as it should have. Def look it over for any cracks at the welds.

This is all good stuff to think about. I run one of these on my fuel cell as the sole breather and it acts like a rollover valve with the ball in there. $30 well spent.

So what can you do for the transmission? Is there a product that goes in line where the dipstick tube goes that can seal it up at least most of the way?

New style dipsticks seal pretty well Avery, a lokar dipstick should seal really really well. The trans fluid was mostly out of the breather, so just another rollover valve in that breather should do its job just fine.

I might try to join all the breathers at least for the transfer cases and front diff together and just put one valve on it, one for the rear diff, one for the transmission, power steering and oil didn't really leak that much, mostly front diff and transmission fluid.

But I will post up stuff as I think about it.

Wondering how to build the fuel cell. I want to make it spill proof cause while oil and trans fluid can ignite if something hot enough touches them fuel is alot more dangerous. Not to mention I will probably make three trips up there to get all the fluids cleaned up to my satisfaction. So less fluid spilled is less time I need to clean it up.

The thing about the fuel cell is I still want to use the stock in tank pump. We shall see what I can come up with.

The only thing I like about running diesel in mine is it's real hard to ignite, well that and the fuel sipping:D
Not sure if you'd use the in tank fuel pump for the diesel or not but it's something to think about before you spend any $$$.

After watching your video I was wandering if, just before you rolled your rear pumpkin was hung up. At that point could you have done a front dig to swing your front end down hill to lessen the chance of a roll?
