Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

Why not raise the front 1/2 inch.
Clearance for the surround that will go around the seats vs where the tire and shock will go. Also a compromise between where Sawyer is most comfortable vs where Bailey is most comfortable, also measuring the coolers we have and the coolers we want . The added 2 " will be beneficial.

I'm sure you've thought about this already. But if you're sizing things for Sawyer, it's going to get cramped as he catches up to Bailey (size-wise). So I'd size everything for the bigger kid. In the long run, that's already a compromise, as they're both still growing.

Yes I have I can't build to fit the size I think Sawyer will get because he might be my size. It's also not like they don't have room .A normal sized adult ( 5'10") would fit maybe not being super comfy but reality if it is this is a crawler. It doesn't need to be comfy for 12 hours but like 4 or 5. And really by the time both of them get big enough for it to be uncomfortable I plan to let them drive as much as possible. The unfortunate reality is Kris can't go all the time and sometimes would rather not, so likely it will be me and the kids. They can deal with it if they wanna drive.

And of course the above reasons

Tbi sbc is like a cockroach, huh, never heard that one before. Also untrue. I have killed a 3. Your not trying hard enough.

It sat without a hood or air cleaner for a couple years. Anyone can kill an engine but the TBI 350s make so little power and the ignition system is so weak in the above 4500 rpm range it's a hard engine to kill.

In reality I gotta go wheeling. Cage, skins and wheel. Well I gotta fix the front driveshaft put shocks on, all I need to wheel.

After that fix front suspension better,

Improve what I already have and start on a small light buggy

Oh and yes TBI 350s are like cockroaches can't kill em. We even had the charge wire from the alternator hooked to the ground on the battery. It all still works! Try that on your fancy LS motor lol.

I approve of this course of action....so continue onward and upward

So allow me to preach for just a minute.

When everyone is fabbing stuff taking a bit of time to round corners, take off edges, and grind stuff smooth can make a huge difference in your fab.

Case in point. I'm moving my rear seat mounts. Used some angle iron cause it was simple and easy .

So when I cut it off I noticed it hadn't been smoothed or ground very well.

So I give you these pics.

And after a couple minutes

Just a couple minutes and super ugly angle iron brackets become just ugly .

Gonna cut some braces to throw in the angle. Right next to each bolt hole.

So I have been stewing on this for a bit.

My front driveshaft is broken. It's always had a CV joint up there. I have never bought a new driveshaft for this all used stuff. My Dana 60 has a 1410 on the yoke. I'm thinking going to a single 1410 up on the t case. I see no need for a CV joint on Horton. 1410 is for the angle capacity. I'd actually much rather go 1350 as it's cheaper but worried about the angle capacity.

This is a typical leaf sprung decent, dare I say long, travel setup. Am I stewing over nothing? 1350 gonna be fine or spend the extra 50 bucks and go 1410.

Myself and a bunch of the guys I run with have gone to 1410 joints up here , a few guys with smaller rigs are still running 1350’s some guys have tried the offset 1350’s to eliminate the CV with mixed results.

In my moves somewhere my collection of broken Dana 60 shafts went away. That was my plan originally

I'll have two when you come up here and we put my chromo shafts in...my old rear driveshaft was made that way..but when it needed to be lengthened there wasnt enough left of the stub shaft to reweld once it was cut off..so I had to go back to a 1350.
