how not to port and polish, link to original thread

One of my friends grandmas boy friend filled their tranny till it was full all the way up the dip stick. It was in a POS Ford Tempo.

I just remembered this one - my father in-law thought that if you set your pressure regulator on your air compressor to 65 PSI, then your air ratchet would torque bolts to 65 ft-lbs. He never used a torque wrench. I never bothered to ask him how he torqued bolts to 150 ft-lbs with a compressor that only went up to 120 PSI.:haha:

Thankfully he never did get any of his project cars running, now he just buys them already "done".

The story is BS. Too much sand to be believable and they had too much knowledge to do it. Slim chance or convincing me they thought the abrasive action would only work on one part of the engine rather than everything it came in contact with. This is tantamount to placing your hand on a sander thinking it's ok because it's a wood sander.

Then again, it is on the internet so it much be true!:rolleyes::rolleyes::surepal::surepal::surepal::shame: :shame:

It does sound pretty fishy, but who knows? Snopes doesn't say it aint true, so I prefer to BELIEVE!

Of course, it probably doesn't get wide enough circulation to perk up the ears of the folks at Snopes.

you're probably right, especially for a small displacement engine. maybe a 350 or something could handle more than that tiny engine, just because the internal damage would be spread over a larger area and take longer to cause failure....maybe. i'm not crazy or dumb enough to try it.

i patched a friend's cracked 426 hemi block with some jb weld, then we took it on a 300 mile roadtrip. it actually held, but that probably wasn't the wisest thing i could have done.

Just read that same article on chevytruckworld.com I had a buddy who used atf in this ol Toyota Tercel. It was a baggin car so it didnt matter, it took it for a good couple hours, than sadly seized up. Good times is all i can say.

I almost fell out of my chair with this one. The dog was looking at me funny hahahahahahaha

Met a guy who didnt think the oil was getting to both sides of the motor from the fill so he took both valve covers off and poured half on one side and half on the other. lol

Stupid Motorists...

Wow, well there is probably some truth to this story. I think it would be kinda hard to think something up that insane... :o However, My mother God Bless her, would not get an oil change in her vheicles until the "Oil Light" came on. And amazingly her cars would run forever.. I after gaining some knowledge of engines and cars told her that light is there so when the oil gets low it lets you know to add oil.. So she started the 3-5k oil change technique (SP) :haha::haha:

Oh ive had my share of fun.

1) Had a suzuki 4wheeler 1985. and did my first oil change, there was no dipstick and didnt see the site glass. I keep pouring til it got to the bottom of the plug (about 4 quarts too much). Luckily I didnt run it til I figured out there was a site glass. Tries to pull drain plug to only drain what I needed out. Yip, I dropped the drain plug and lost all the oil. lol. Lesson learned.

2) First 2stroke motorcycle I ever owned. Thought you mixed motor oil with gas to get the mixture for a 2 stroke. Well, obviously I didnt know you needed special oil. Bike smoked pretty heavily til it fouled the plugs. Had to remove gas tank and carb and clean the motor oil out. loll. Lesson learned.

Im sure there are mainly, but those two haunt me forever. lol. Things we do as a kid.

My brother bought a newish s10 blazer that had no water in the radiator to speak of it was all oil. It ran fine when he bought it and quickly flushed out the cooling system and refilled with 50/50. Runs great too this day.

I call BS on this one. This is a 1.8T Audi, there is no way you're going to get a sand through a turbo and a charged air cooler for any appreciable amount of time.
