How to remove trim, molding, and glass on a Suburban? Prepping for paint.

Thanks man, me too! I did have an inital phone call to corperate headquarts in regards to a refund. They said that a refund would normally come from the original shop that did the work. But i told them in this case the original shop is out of business and i dont like the quality of work done by the shop thats taking over and that i would rather have a refund so that i can take it elsewhere. She said she would look into the matter and return a call to me within 24hrs. We'll see. I also called the maaco thats taking over this one to get a time frame and the guy asked for my name and number so that he could call me back. THat was at 10:30 this am. Still no call back.

You have more patience than i would they had all the equipment to do everything right they did the bodywork and prepped it and still ****ed it up

Called the Clacamas Maaco which is taking over the Gresham one. Finally talked to the owner which is now also the owner of the maaco where my truck is. He said he doesnt plan on having people start working out there for at least two weeks. He told me he would be out there at 10:00am tomorrow for me to come pick up the truck and schedule a time for me to drop it off at the clackamas location. So, im going to go pick it up and then work on getting a refund first, and if i cant, i will just have to drop it off at clackamas and hope for the best.

I'd get it back in my possession before I filed anything. I take it back and push to get a refund or some money back, then get it painted right later.

Went and got the truck today. No worseoff than it was when i dropped it off. Crazy how ugly those wheels and tires look on there!

Are those cheap chrome with black centers? I had some that were gold centers and I painted them black like those. I like that look

Yep thats what they are. I hate them with a cpital H. I have been thinking about painting them white to get me by. I cant wait till i can get a good set of wheels and tires for the 78 so the 90 can keep its aluminum wheels and pro comps.

Well, good news? I guess? I will be dropping the truck back off April 15th. Now i have some real soul searching to do on how i want to handle it going forward. Im so sick of dealing with it at this point that i just want to drive it down there like it is today and see how it comes back. The other part of me wants to get back in my original mindset of trying to make it a better paint job by pulling stuff back off. I think im going to do a middle ground and just pull a few things.

But giving up is so easy!!! j/k I just dont know if i want to strip it as far down as i did the first time. Its a real dilemma too cause the weather here in april is so crazy. If it has to sit outside at all down there i would be super paranoid about it getting rained on without the glass in it.

The other thing im having a real tough time with is the jams... It needs the door jams painted but they are another $150 per door. And i got alota doors. I really dont have the money to do it, but i could always whip out the old charge card... But im trying to keep myself from continuing down debt avenue! Its about right now that i would kill for a two car garage...

side window/windshield lockstrip kinda stuff, I'd leave.. it's trimmed underneath... even a not great mask job, you can clean overspray easy enough off the rubber. and those are easy to mask even for noobs..

that said, ya might wanna think about pulling door outer felts and vent glass, as they are not as easily masked... possibly handles and locks too..

for the rest just pull the easy obvious stuff, maybe mirrors, etc...

I wonder if i could use one of the smaller "touch up" hvlp guns and do the jams myself at a later date. Tough one. Its both a good idea and bad idea...

easy enough, a jamb a weekend, some disassembly, some sanding, some good masking, shoot... it's the way I'm doing Mutt sorta...

I wonder if i could just get them to sell me a extra quart of the paint they use so that the color will match? The jams dont need to look perfect but they are downright nasty right now.
