I could use some help. swapped engine.

aight, was just curious cause i have seen two different balancers before, the one i had a long time ago was in a 305 and the timing mark was read through the top, down between the water pump and the timing cover, not sure if they ever did that on the trucks though. Someone else on here may know that definate answer.

I would say now, charge the battery, if it doesn't start, move the distributor in about 1/2 inch increments or smaller, advancing it alittle at a time, then back it up if it still won't start, and try, don't over crank it though, if it wont start withing a few cranks even with ether, it's not set right. don't over use that ether, either, that's some nasty stuff if you use too much.

i may have you call me later in the morning, or i can call you, after you get the battery charged, it's after 1:00 am here now and i'm about to get to bed, i'd like to try to hear the engine while you crank it, on the phone.

alright. sp/ Advancing the timing, would be counter clockwise or clockwise?

I cant turn the dizzy Too much because of the plugwire length I may have to rearrange them since my #1 is about 8 oclock positioning now

edit, also I need to put my starter shims back in! I dropped the starter today to double check the wiring. but it's going in too deep now.

Either way, I'll be up for a little bit longer if ya feel like chatting and going over a few things, if not, feel free to call in the morning, we'll get this fingered out.:waytogo:

Yeah 4x. that's what I did just started my #1 from there. but I cant send another pm. can onlyt send 1 every 10 minutes. I need to buy membership. Just hard up on cash. especially with the cashcow not running :(

Rotor was pointing to where no4 would normally, so you started your no1 wire from there, running them clockwise , 1,3,5,7 down the driver side, 2,4,6,8 down the pass side.

And you're sure you have the dist power wire plugged into the cap on the batt terminal,,, and not the tach terminal...

Just wondering as i have broken those clips in the past and just fixed it with a female spade connector. :P

Alright, and you have power going to that wire as well, correct?

Does the engine spit or cough at all through the carb while you're trying to start it?

Yeah I have 12.63 volts to that wire, Itested it before My last crank. so battery was kinda dead. but still 12v. Not that I noticed I dont hear it

Well i,m thinkin now from our extensive discussion, and your descriptions you have given me, it should fire up, i ask about the coughing out the carb as that's usually a good indicator that it's firing, just not at the right time. So now i'm even starting to think something is at fault with the coil pack or something in the dizzy was not hooked up right.

I had the coil tested at the parts store, I even checked it with the multimeter. I replaced the cap, rotor. the control module Tested good.

Replaced the ignition pickup. made sure the wires were hooked up correctly.
