I failed smog. Heated O2 wiring questions now.

I think I have 2.5" pipe. But i just called a few shops. Range installed is $180-225. The guy said anything hi flow is a lie. He said there is no such thing.

I'm just going to get one installed. Then later I want a new badass system.

That one states in the description that it is not legal in CA
well it says 49 states, which means not CA.
CA 2 years ago changed their requirements on CATs and now it costs more here because it has to be different. Just like everything in CA.
Hey Munepit, if you want I have a CAT you can have just pay shipping, it's used but I am sure it's good.
You can install it yourself and get it to smog, then you could later put something better if you feel the need.

That sounds like a hell of a deal. How could i refuse. PM comming your way.

I will post a picture with the size here to see if yours is close. Thanks!!!

Ok, Took some pictures. Its 2.5" pipe.

Let me know, I will send paypal today. Thanks Iceman!

A guy told me I can clean my EGR with a torch. I was thinking of just buying a new one. Anyways I have a few pics and was wondering why am I missing a line here. Is the EGR hooked up correctly at this position? I'm lost here.

This is what I'm talking about. Looks like a line is missing.

That is the EGR solenoid. Thats all i got for you on it being hooked up right. I have never seen one with two ports off the rear.

That second port is a vent, I remember mine originally had a little foam filter on it.

As far as cleaning the EGR, I have cleaned them with brake cleaner with no problems.

FWIW ,my truck has never had a problem passing smog, but I pulled the EGR valve one time for some reason and it was COMPLETELY
blocked with carbon buildup or whatever black solid stuff that was in there, I stabbed through it with a screw driver and scraped
out what I could and reinstalled it but like I said it made no difference whether it passed or not.

Then I got smart and registered my truck with a P.O. box in a non smog county about an hour away and no longer had to worry about it.

can you register your truck with historic (25 years and older)plates in Cal.?I registered my 87 with historic plates,I never have to get inspected again.

No such thing here. This is CA they need to keep getting money from us, no easy anything.:doah:

Ok here is the CAT I have, I can cut the 16" length out of it, but it's slightly larger than yours at 2 3/4" instead of the 2.5"
But I believe you should be able to slip it over and weld it, I have seen that done a lot but let's ask the guys.
I am sure it will flow better than a 2.5"

sorry it was getting dark when I took the pic.
Tomorrow I will take a pic of the inside, it looks pretty clean inside and on the top it has a built in heat shield.

a trick i heard about

when you weld the cat in take a squirt bottle with salt water and squirt in around the welds and let it sit for a few days.

This makes it look original :thumb:

Or don't worry about the new welds and if they ask, you simply had to reweld due to exhaust leaks.

Oh I know about that one and I would definitely suggest he does something to hide the fact he changed CATs and has no reciept from a shop:thumb:

Failed agai for the 3rd time. He didn't even charge me. Got the cat in. Thanks Iceman!! He said I was burning or using was to much fuel. The CO# was 3. something. He told me to put in a new O2 sensor.

Did your HC's drop at all with the CAT change?
