I have a K5!

The only sound desdening material I have in mine is the herculiner and ther roof liner. It echos like crazy outside the truck and sounds tinny inside. But beats the hell out of no radio at all.

The Rhino Lining should be a sound deadener. I know all of the pickups I've put it in have gotten quieter afterward. Rubber granules + thick coat = sound deadener. Dunno how effective it will be vs the factory insulation, carpet, and interior panels but I'll know soon.

Echoes a good bit now. When I was driving it over Tuesday morning I kept thinking, "sounds like Big Ugly only I can actually hear the exhaust AND the engine".

Random thought but do you have the hood insulation? I'm told that actually quiets the clank from the engine bay down quite a bit. The Blazer is actually noticeable quieter than Big Ugly in that respect.

Subscribed, awaiting completion of Rhino liner!

I had Rhino liner in a Silverado I owned a couple years ago, and it got pretty tore up from hauling a few engines back there, but I liked how it was non-slip and soft.

I would like to do Rhino liner inside my future K5, and I don't think it will have any problems since I won't be throwing engines in the back of it. I like Line-X, I'm just worried about the "sandpaper" feel of it.

I'm looking forward to hearing how you like your Rhino Liner.

Rhino Liner's got a lifetime warranty. Keep your original bill of sale and if you gouge it or anything they'll patch it up under warranty. Used it myself once on the Ranger.

I literally was the guy you've heard about driving around with his tool box sitting on his tail gate. Twice. Didn't budge and I only realized it both times when I walked around the back for the Ranger.:doah::D

Rhino Liner actually has three products. One is the softer one that most people think of that is generally used in the beds. The second is a harder liner more like Line-X and those kinds of bedliners. I actually have that on my rock rails. Not as hard as Line-X but definitely harder than the regular Rhino Liner. The third is a colored variant of one of the two, I forget which.

Honestly I've just always had good luck with Rhino Liner. I got my Ram done down in GR for a good price because I used to work at Classic Chevy and they were the place that did it. Then I moved up here and ran into a deal on the bed for my Ranger with the guy who does them up here. He's a good guy, competitive pricing, does pieces and parts (not just beds) without hassle, and cuts me a deal since I've had him do and sent him so much work over the last 5 years. Honestly he's one of the only things I'm going to miss about TC.

I'm still not sure what I am planning for my project, but I am looking hard at Rhino Liner, Line-X and Speedliner. I know for sure that I want a soft, rubbery, non-abrasive, non-skid coating on the bed surface and tailgate, but I think I would want to do the rest of the vehicle in a hard material like Line-X. I'm even considering coating the outside of the body.

Make sure you post pictures when yours is done, I want to see it!

He called this morning and said it will be done soon. Will let you guys know.

Picked it up, love it.

Other than the guy who sprayed it admitting he was tired last night and spraying over my front seatbelt mounts in the floor (he said it was his own damn fault) and me bringing the passenger side seat to pick the Blazer up :doah::laugh: then it's pretty much exactly what I expected. I am kicking myself though as I forgot to discuss the lip of the tailgate with him and he didn't do it...since I never asked him about it. Oh well, I have a buddy who does a DIY liner setup and I'll see when he's doing another and maybe sneak it in.

I'll get more shots after I throw the interior in this evening. Definitely a bit quieter now but still noisier than stock. However I've got no rear seat, no sides yet, no spare, none of my tools and such, and about ten open holes in the floorboards letting sound in.

Yes, I'm quite pleased.

Oh, btw, the passenger seat's rear bolt holes ARE NOT in the same place as the d-side's. Whoopsie...

Dude that looks great! What kind of prep work had to be done? Did he just wipe it down with some solvent or sandblast it or what? How do the wood panels look plasticoated?

They sand/grind everything. The dash is all dusty. Then they wipe it down with something to degrease it. Same as all the liners. Prep work is key.

Looking great AJ....
Thanks man.
wow that looks amazing! awesome idea with the rear side panels, they look like they turned out pretty good!
Well, I wish I had done a bit more measuring when I made them but I was on a time line and behind...

I've got the front seats, center console, and t-case shifter boot and plastic thingy in. Holes for the seat belts are all setup for installation and so are the rear seat holes.
I'm a bit nervous about the next part as I know the sides are going to be a pain. Well, the D-side is since I measured incorrectly and it ended up a wee bit small. Going to have to get creative to make it fit correctly.

Then the rear seat goes in, the seat mount, all the trim and stuff, then the door weatherstripping on both sides (holy crap GM, could you put more hard to get at interior trim in the way please?), and then the stereo and speakers get installed...woo!

Hoping to have it done tonight still. Dinner is finished, time to go.

Okay, the rear seat is in, the side panels are on, the spare is in place and all the trim is done. I installed the rear speakers.
I have the stereo and dash back in place but I need to get an extension or something on the antenna cord as it's like 4" too short. I can't find any way to get more slack out of it and it's just too damn short by l-----------------------------------------------------l much.

The interior panels went well other than having to fight a bit of a bow they had developed. I basically indexed them off of the seatbelt assembly up front and then tried my damnedest to line up with the factory holes. Which sorta worked and sorta didn't. I had originally intended to drill out holes and reuse the original screws but after my little flub with the dimensions I gave up on that. I took silver anti-seize and goobed it on each screw hole and then held the panels in place against it and then drilled out where I could see the silver. Worked okay but some didn't make marks and some were off a bit. I ended up just using self taping machine screws and made the appropriate holes that way. Gives it a more industrial look I think.

Didn't get to drive it though, rolled into the house about 1:10am. Gotta run some errands in town tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.

Got a 6" or so antenna extension from a guy in town and the radio is in and done. Even got to play with it a bit. Bluetooth over the radio is just friggin' cool. Only one HD radio station in TC...big surprise...and it's country...shocker there...

Cleaned up my mess, cleaned the windows, and even got some stickers on it finally.

AJM,

In an earlier reply you mentioned the tailgate and the installer didn't do what you wanted!

What didn't get done right? It all looks great!

It is quieter than without any interior, but when the stereo plays, it sounds about as loud outside as inside.

Not as good and the temp from the engine/tranny warm it up a bit.

I do have the hood insulation, but half of the firewall stuff is gone(dry rotted and fell off when I was messing with the wiring) and it does make it rather quiet compared to with nothing.

I was wanting him to do the outside lip of the fender where they tend to rust out from **** sitting there. I was going to have him do from the window down to that sorta bumper ridge thingy. I completely forgot to tell him about it so he didn't do it. My fault.:doah:

Yeah, I'd say it's a bit louder...but not much. I can't say much on how much warmer it is in the vehicle now because I didn't have heat until a few weeks ago so I'm still not used to being warm in the Blazer. Still finding the "just right" settings.

3 hour trip to my folks last night and then a 7 hour trip down to Lexington, KY today. Wasn't bad. I'm tired but that's a lot of driving anyways.

Starting to think about better seats...ass was sore within a few hours.:doah:
