I have a K5!

*THINKING* the mystery oil leak on the side of the trans was just residue and scuz from the lift pump leak/spill/hazmat situation. Degreased and pressure washed the bottom of it a month or so ago and put a new piece of cardboard under it. Nada now. Just two small spots off the oil pan and one from the tailshaft. The usual.

Supposed to be getting some new GM NOS rear leaf springs. That will probably start a general rebuild/upgrade of the rear suspension. More to come on that.

REALLY wanting to paint it and ditch the hard top for a soft top. Talked about that some. Canvas seat covers will happen so I can at least take the top off. Soft top will be a while off...hard to scrape together $800 ya know?
Paint...dunno. My local buddy is just getting flakier and flakier so I don't think we'll be doing it. Coworker paints and does good work from what others at work say but again...hard to save. Probably be next year at the soonest.

Thinking about some better shocks too. These ACDelco Premiums with nitrogen are nice and all but man...it still wallows and they are stock shock sized...not big like your regular aftermarket shock. Might just do that as an easy upgrade when I do the rear suspension.

Thanks.

Looks can be deceiving though. Paint sucks, it leaks, isn't running well, trans isn't 100%, and I found some crunchy rusty spots on the rear footwells behind the fender.

It needs help but well, it's my mess.

Actually, I sold them to Duntz00. He's going to use them on his truggy. Better than dealing with that old shyster again.

Yeah, I'm still not convinced he didn't know they weren't Chevy springs. Some of the things he said sorta make me think he knew they were Dodge springs.

Either that or he had NO idea how to tell an old Chevy from an old Dodge apart.

Looking good Andrew! :waytogo:

If you get into doing the interior I can send you some memory foam as an underlay for the carpet. I thought it made a nice comfort addition to mine.

Does the memory foam absorb water? if you look at the pics im my thread you can see the problem with something that will hold water. My rear floor boards rotted through from I'm assuming the moisture when the heater core went.

no more than the fiber padding would. I Dynamatted the floor then did a fiber pad, then 1" memory foam, then the carpet. If you have holes in the floor I wouldn't recommend adding anything that holds moisture.

Thanks guys. The Rhino Lining pretty much is my interior. I may spray some more in for a much thicker coat and add some sound deadening behind the panels and on the roof but this is about it.

Been doing a lot of thinking and I might just stay with the 700R4 that's in it.

Not terribly thrilled with the manual trans options out there for it and frankly, I don't have the money, time, or skill to swap one in EVEN if I just did a SM465 swap and got a whole 80's donor truck to do it from.
...and then I'd lose OD gear.

Meanwhile I have a 700R4 that works okay. Shifts decently firm and hasn't given me any real issues. I just don't trust autos as a rule. Every odd shift or lockup shudder makes me worry but there's probably a valid reason for each.:dunno:

Contemplating a deep pan, rerouting/redoing the cooler lines (interfere with the ORD steering brace), and maybe a floor shifter of some kind.

Also SERIOUSLY Jonesin' for a soft top...BAD. Keep staring at my bank account going..."I can make this happen...":doah:

Why are you wanting a soft top so badly? I know they're cool... but aren't they a lot of money? We could rig you up a hoist to take your hard top on and off in your garage... thats what I plan on doing when I move. They sell those kits to take Jeep hard tops off.... can't be that hard to make one.

1-AC doesn't work and the WHOLE system needs to be replaced. Soft top is probably cheaper and I'm not overall a fan of the complexities of the AC setup on these trucks.

2-Top needs a decent amount of work to be pretty and solid again. Seattle's climate wasn't kind to it.

3-Tailgate needs some help. Cracks at the sides, little bit of rust by them, window works from the dash switch but not the key, hinges starting to freeze up, needs new felt and seals...pickup gate seems better and better.

4-Pickup gate and soft top = several hundred pound weight savings = free power.

5-I can take the top off but days like today would suck...(been raining all morning for the non-locals) without the soft top.

6-I WANTS IT!

you'll never be able to beat that reason, itll haunt you til you give in.

Yeah. When I was a teenager there was a guy in my hometown with a rather beat 80's K5 on Swampers that almost NEVER had the hard top on. Then one day he got one of Besttop's soft tops (remember those?) and I think I peed a little. Wanted one ever since.

I still got the framework from this one!
