NBS Tahoe chassis with a K5 body on it? LOVE IT

Love the NBS Tahoes. Such a great design. They just glide down the road and tow really well. (or at least waaayyyyy better than my K10)

Let me list the all bonuses of this swap:
- 5.3L LS
- 5 link coil rear suspension
- Fully boxed frame
- 4 wheel disks with floating 4 piston calipers

What the hell did we ever do before google? I don't even remember.

My brother and I were just discussing this. I needed a rebuild kit for a 1956 Chrysler auto trans. Found the guru in eastern Ma. What would I have done 15 years ago?

I have to wait until tomorrow to see it. He worked late today.

My big question is, do I shorten the tahoe frame or length the blazer body. I know the longer wheel base would tow better. But the short wheel base fits on the semi and I can still tow the boat.

For a normal person, I'd say it's much easier to shorten the frame than lengthen the sheet metal.

For you, with the semi setup, I'd definitely keep the short wheel base (or lengthen the semi :pimp:). The K5 will be just fine pulling the boat.

I think I missed something, though. Why bother with a frame swap vs. simply swapping drive trains?

Because the suspension is all bolted to the frame. This thing will be 4x4 lowered with air bags. The independent front end is key to this. Hard to accomplish with leaf springs.

Here's another idea. I realize using your real tow rig is out because it doesn't make sense to fire it up for something so small BUT towing trailers slows ya' down when you cross into Cali due to our 55mph deal. Ever seen the crew cab Chevy wedge truck Roadkill uses?
I'm envisioning something similar but 4x4 and instead of a wedge make the back a V so you can pull the boat up into it out of the water. Completely unique and with no trailer it'll be 70-75MPH all the way to the lake and back.

But maybe more like this cab to keep with the retro style...

Getting on the back of the semi is important. It will only be in Ca maybe twice a year. And I am never in a hurry anymore.

I want to be able to haul it there, then use the Bla-hoe (just made that up) to move the boat around.

Oh I completely misunderstood the goal here. I thought you were solely using the new rig to tow the boat. But you're using the big rig to haul the small tow rig and boat then use the small rig once you're in the general area of the lake?

:smirk:I think you should get a big semi truck with four or five trailers like the Australians run down under.
