Tailgate #{%#}%{!!

Got the tailgate back on tonight with the help of a couple saw horses and a bunch of swearing. Now I need to find the right rear bumper/tire carrier. Any suggestions?

Interior is coming along VERY nice!! I was taking a look at that company you posted about that's in Orange... WOW they are pretty pricey. I'm not one for online orders though so glad to hear that the owner got back to you with a pleasing response. It's good to know of somewhere somewhat local. :)

Cutting out side panels

I have my side panels traced out on my plywood. Any last minute tips for installing or adjustments I might need to make?

Don't forget to cut the holes for the seat belts, if you are still using them.

Here is a pic of mine before I installed them, the holes are all cut in the plywood but I had not cut the material yet.

Here's one installed with only a few screws.
If you have any question about doing them let me know.

Side Panel Progress

Here are some pics from my work on the first side panel tonight. I think I am going to build out storage boxes that straddle the wheel wells on both sides. Anyone done this already and have drawings?

I'm liking the storage idea. Can't wait to see how you implement the storage and still make it look good. I was just thinking a speaker box in mine but storage would be nice, too.

iPad Ram Mount Install

Just got my Ram iPad mount. I was able to install it with no drilling using one of the existing bolts on the transfer case selector cover. Now I have GPS and all of my music.

Wow that's a big GPS screen! It's going to suck when you get sand on it.

Tailgate cable

The cable from the window motor to the tailgate window mechanism snapped with the window in the down position. I have a new cable from LMC but at a loss for how to install the new cable. Any suggestions?

Open the tailgate lock the latches. There are 4 small bolts that hold the glass in. Unbolt and slide the window out enough you can get to where the cable hooks to the regulator. Then run it to the motor then bolt the glass back to the regulator. After you hook the new cable up run the motor up some where you can get to the bolts easier.

I had that happen to me. I managed to hook the broken cable up to a drill & roll it up. Then I replaced it.

Success

Thanks for the tips. I was able to successfully replace the cable. Now I can drive my K5 again without the carbon monoxide poisoning. Next project - I need to install some 12v outlets and finish the side panels/rear storage.

Sad day

I'm thinking about selling my ride. Sad but true. I just don't drive it much. It's pretty much ready for final suspension touches. If anyone is interested ou can see all the pics of the restore in my threads. Thought I'd put it out to members before I put it up for sale locally here in San Diego. PM if you have any questions.
