Introduction & K5 Blazer Build Ideas....

Very nice find. glad to see your sticking with it.

As far as triple a goes , dont even get me started.

Just got back from pickin up the blazer. Flew up to Reno this am without any tools. Got in @ 1000. The previous owner picked me up at the airport and took me over to the dealer, which was only 5 mins away. Paid for the fluid changes, signed paperwork and drove off.

Stopped and got a toolkit from Kragen, oil, stop leak, towels, lug wrench (stock didn't fit the lugs, good I checked), etc. Stopped in Bishop to top off the tank. Only stopped once after that for the facilities. This thing is in great condition. Interior and exterior. Everything worked, including the air conditioning, windows, locks are a little stubborn with the key.

That drive has some serious elevation to traverse. AC on temps stayed around 170, then up to 200 on the big climbs getting closer to the desert. No issues at all. It didn't burn any oil and doesn't smoke. No complaints. Not a leak of coolant anywhere, not sure what the dealer was talking about, but I'll look into it tomorrow.

Looks like it was getting in the neighborhood of 12-15mpg, which I think is pretty good considering the heat and hills. Anyway, thanks all for the advice, and the numbers to contact incase anything happened. If anyone is traversing socal and needs anything, let me know. Guess I'll go return that tool kit now. Probably keep all the fluids though. Steve

Glad you made it back with an uneventful trip. Might as well keep the tool kit also unless you already have one to keep in the rig.

I find my 90 is a healthy mix of metric and SAE...might be wise to keep both kits.

Rene

Unfortunately a Yota is all metric and this should be almost all SAE. :deal:

Good point. It's been so many years since I've had a Chevy. I'm not sure about the quality of this tool kit from Kragen. Still wrapped in plastic, I'll probably just return it anyway. I'll just add in some good standard stuff with my Metric. I knew there was a reason I was saving all of this standard stuff for this many years.

Nice.

What size tires are those again?

Know the gearing?

4" of lift you said?

Yeah, definitely looks like it needs 35's but I bet it drives decent with the 33's. I had that size and gearing in a '92 Blazer K1500 with the TBI 350 and 4L60. Went along pretty well.

am I imagining a trx250r in the garage? Or something red and fun anyway...
anyway..
pretty truuuuck :)

It needs 35's for looks, but I can't imagine up the mountains with em. The 33/32/s do run pretty good.

The front springs were replaced about 10k ago and the front is stiff as heck. I need to soften it up a little. I figured this thing would have really soft suspension with the mileage, but when they did the lift, which does say 4", they put new front springs. Can't see that they did the back, but it doesn't sag at all. Hard to tell if the back is as stiff as the front, but it sure feels like it.

If this rig has the factory optional dual front shocks you could remove the forward shock and see if that helps with ride quality.

Makes me wonder if it has the Tuff Country HD springs.
