I'm trying to find a company that builds heavy duty hard core diesel crate motors to replace the 396 that currently resides between the fenderwells of my baby. Any help would be great.

Love the first gen!

Let us know what you find please. I decided not to pursue this after I looked at the weight differences but I would be coming from SBC, not BBC. What is the intended use of the k5?

Hello

My name is Chuck, I live in San Diego and currently own an '86 Toyota FJ60... So what am I doing here?? I am considering swapping in a 6.2L banks Turbo or a 6.5L TD. My reasons for doing this are more power, better mpg.

I am here to learn everything I can about these motors before I make the jump.

Hey everybody. Tracy here from Myrtle Beach. I have an old 72 blazer that is pretty much rust now, but recently having thoughts about resurrecting it for off road use only. Have a bunch of questions and this looks like just the place for answers!

Hey All ....

:D Hey all about 3 months ago I got my first Blazer.(Had a 74 Chevy C10 before) It's a 1980, I got it from a guy who had done a few mods to it. Including a rollcage over the back half. He Threw in a softtop when i bought it, so what the hell. As is right now its sittin on a 6-inch lift with 35-in Pro Comp Muds. stock 350 with K&N air filter open face. Also has fully reclinable seats from an Acura/Honda/toyota or some small import style car. These are sitting on a custom steel tubed set up tyed in at the firewall and in the back just below the stock bench seat. Damna re they comfy! I'm Currently in northern california(East Bay) But am moving to Washington State(puget sound area) in the late spring. As of right now I have the following ideas in place to start getting this blazer the way i want it. new front springs, New tailgate ( does not have one now) High power Lights, a roof rack, New shocks, re-do the steering box( its still fine now) many power plant upgrades, including headers, intake, exhaust sytem to include, dual 2 chamber flowmasters. MSD ignition etc. I could go on and on.....Glad to be apart of this community. :D

any suggestions

I have a 468 in front of a 700r4 and 208 t-case. I have not been able to drive my 84 :k5: for about 3 months now. The 700r4's just can't handle that much motor, unless you sink major $$$ into it.... :angry1:

Not trying to tell you what to do, by any means, just wanted to let you know what happened to me.

Welcome to the coolest site on the web, and good luck. :waytogo:

I had a front drive shaft length issue on my pick up. I ended up putting 1 inch block between the t-case cross member (top) and the frame (bottom). I had a 4" suspension lift and a 3" body lift. It eased the drive shaft angle, and didn't have to cut or lengthen my drive shaft.

cant wait to feel the difference w 4.10s on the 78 ... bb,low gears, stick shift 35-15.5-15 swampers :haha:

Don't screw with the driveshafts. Take them to a professional. You'll have all sorts of grief if you don't. Take them to Weller in G.R. with a measurement from center of u-joint on diff yoke to center of u-joint on t-case yoke. They'll take care of getting your slip yokes in the right length. You could use Valley truck or the other shop that I can't remember the name of right now, but I've only used Weller so far, and they've treated me right.

Intro..

Well, it's time to say Hello I suppose.

I've been lurking around this forum for quite some time. I found it while looking for a Suburban forum, (which there does not seem to exist!!) but have a weakness for these trucks in general.

basically I've always been a "Fordguy" (eek!!) but ingeneral just plain have gasoline in my viens! HAHA.

I don't currently have a truck at all but it's looking more and more like a Suburban is in the future. (Father of THREE girls, ALL under 5 so in car seats/boosters!) and I need a REAL truck!

I almost bought a 78 Suburban, (350/4spd) about 10 years ago but unfortunately the outer front body mounts were rotted out.

One day....

Though it seems around here (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) it's hard to find anything older than say early 90's!

Maybe I should check our lotto tickets. LOL. (Uh huh-buy a Suburban, move to North Bay!! WOOHOO!! -About 5 hpours north of here and one day we intend to move there-they have REAL winter!! Toronto has NONE!)

Anyways. I do love the forum as I've seen so far. Looks like a fairly close knit place. I don't post because I have nothing relevant to add. But I do like exploring the site and hopefully will have time to do so.

Den. :D

New to Forums

:o Hello everybody! After several years of learning to navigate my computer and the internet I have finally joined a forum. I suppose I could join several of them since my automotive interests vary tremendously, but alas they ALL fall under ONE specific manufacturerer...GM. I switched from (bad word coming) Ford to Chevrolet in the summer of 1980 (July 4th to be exact) and purchased a '69 SS Camaro for $1100.00 and haven't looked back since. Summer of '97 I purchase my first GMC Jimmy, a '79 and last year I purchased another one. Oh, not to mention a '78 Corvette. So though my automotive interests vary the excitement of off-roading provides a sense of freedom unlike any other form of motorsport. So THAT is why I have chosen to join your forum and hope I am accepted. Bowtie Don
