Hi, my name is Chad and I just recently purchased my very first Chevrolet in the 16 years I have been driving. I am/was always a dodge guy and have only owned dodges since day 1. Anyway, I sold my cummins 4x4 dually and a friend of mine talked me into looking at a K5. I liked the way it looked, drove, sounded and felt so I bought it. It is an 88 K5, 6" rough country lift (4" blocks and helper springs YUK) and had 35" bald generic tires. I put on a set of 35" swampers and took it out wheelin...that did not last long though. It has the stock 10 bolts with 4.56 gears, Auburn LSD in the rear, 2 tone blue and white, pwr windows and locks, manual warn hubs and it is very nice shape. I also came across another deal I could not pass up....a 78 K5 on 18 " lift (all springs) with 4 shocks at each corner and 44" ground hawgs. The engine and trans are gone, but I picked it up for dirt cheap so I may part it out or pilfer it to lift the 88 to the sky...have not decided yet. My first real upgrade purchase is a 14bolt SF rear axle. I have disassembled it and I removed all the brackets and perches so far. I will add 4.56 gears and trash the stock gov lock (maybe just weld up the spiders???). Anway, I look forward to reading all your posts and I am glad I found this site...so far I have found many great tech articles that I am sure I will be using. Thanks, CHAD

88 k5 roll bar or cage

Im looking for a roll bar or cage I need to know where to buy or look at this item

Just joined up, newbie from Alabama

Hey, I just joined up here and also just traded my 85 K20 truck for a 75 K5 with 90,000 actual miles and one owner. Still all original with 31 x 10.50 tires. Only upgrade it has is some headers and dual exhaust.
Plans immediately to put a 4" lift kit on it. Upgrade the tires to 33 x 12.50's on 10" wide wheels.
After that, I plan to start working on the upgrades to the engine. Air Gap Alum. intake and Edelbrock 4 bbl carb will replace the stock cast iron intake an Q-bog carb.
I had about $2,000.00 in the K20 so I hope this K5 was worth the swap.

I have an 88 3/4T Suburban sitting on 33's that I picked up for a really good price and my original plan was to just use it for a "support" vehicle for my 97 Jeep TJ. Plans change!!! I fell in love with the 'burban and now want to do a bit of work on it including rear bumper w/swingaway tire/fuel can rack.

Great place ya'll have here with alot of great info. Hope I can contribute!

 Hi all i'm 47 years old, work in the oilfields of ne utah as a mudlogger while they drill gas or oil wells. i own 1986 chev surb i got 3 months ago for $1300.00. it's my 6th beater 4x4 the last 10 years. it's all stock so far. i've owned a 1986 ramcharger, 1980 jeep cj5,1979 chev 1/2 ton p/u, 1980 bronco,a 1985 nissan pu i had for 3 years and just got rid of, and now a 1986 chev surb, never had one i really wanted to build up until this one. where i work is hard on vehicles so i depend on my 4x4 for my livelihood. looking forward to learning as much as i can from u all.got into 4wheeling at an older age 10 years ago. love going thru the mud as much as i did when i was a kid on my bike and can't resist snowdrifts. plan on buliding up this ole chev surb and then down the road in a couple of years find another cj and bulid it into a trailrunner.thanks:D

I'll be in The Lounge if anyone needs me...

My name is Johnathan, I just bought my first K5, it is a 1982 sitting on a 6" with 35. Just bought a Dana 44 front and rear, with a 400 transmission & np208. Need help with going higher & driveshaft angles.

Hey, I'm Phil. I've been in the Army, then the MN National Guard for 15 years now (wow, I'm old) so I found an '86 M1009 to play with. After I bought it last summer, I realized why I got a good deal on it...both axle tubes were slightly bent. It still drove, but I didn't trust it. Might as well go bigger. I found a D44 and 14b FF for $300 and 4" springs for the front. I'm just finishing with the homemade shackle flip for the rear, and it should be on the road shortly....should.;)
This site made it 100 times easier to do. Thank you guys!!!!!  :ears:
I'm sure they're here somewhere, but I have all the manuals for M1008/m1009 military trucks on CD if needed. Let me know.

Skull Leader here. You may not remember me from camaroz28.com. Here is MAC II Monster, a 305ci 1987 Blazer, full size of course. Bought the 17th of this month for $1300, I have already replaced the turn signal switch, outer tie rod, rear window regulator, changed door locks, took off some unnecessary stuff, etc etc. Drove home 250 miles with no problems, no rust (except for the paint) and the 4x4 works awsome.

Next up is finish the dash (gas & oil pressure gauges don't work), get a decent radiator, pound out the dents, fix the interior up a little (front seats are from a Chevy van), and eventually, get a 4" suspension lift.

Here's he is today, with Skull-1 in the background, who is costing me too much to fix every year.

I've already learned alot from this forum, and am banking on getting more out of it.
