Hello all! I've been a (lurking) member for a little while and have been seeing alot of inspiration! My truck is a 1990 K5 with a freshly rebuilt engine & transfer case that I got a few months ago, when I got it reverse in the tranny was out. So it sat for a little while until I saved up the money to rebuild the tranny. Now I have a decently built tranny that works great! Future plans include a 3-4 inch lift with 33s/35s (still deciding on the details), new paint job, stainless mirror conversion, a brake job, adding off road lights, cleaning it up, and making it a backup daily driver/all purpose truck.

New to this site, but I have heard of it. I just bought a 1984 K5 Blazer, it has a carburated small block 350 with TBI heads. Small 3.5" lift with 33's for now. It is my first 4x4, and i already love it.

New K5 owner in Denver - 1972 CST Blazer

Hello and I look forward to contributing to the message board down the road. Just bought a 1972 Chevy K5. It's in pretty decent shape, but of course has a few things to fix (passenger door sticks, driver door won't lock, hatch won't lock or stay shut, etc.) Most of it is minor stuff, but I do need some advice.
- any recommendations for a good mechanic in Denver area? I'd like to have a go-to guy that will know my truck going forward.
- I have a small amount of rust onder the driver/passenger doors...not much, but I want to address now. Also thinking of adding an underbody synthetic to prevent future rust. Plus, I want to add a roll bar and some other minor additions. Any recommendations on a Denver restoration/body shop?

Wish I could post a pic and show you this beauty. I paid the $25 to join as a supporting member, but maybe I need to upgrade. Truck is in fantastic shape and already took it to the high country for some off road snow-bashing, but I need to make some tweaks. Any advice from experienced K5 owners in Denver would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site guys!

You need to have a minimum post count before posting pics, even for paid members. For paid members it might be 5 posts or something, unpaid members I think it's higher.

Brice, for the questions you have, try posting them in "the garage". It's a much higher traffic section of this sight and good for general questions like that. Get your post count up and get some pics, even of the rust. Plenty of experience dealing with that on this site.

Im the NEW GUY

Hey guys name mike im building a 79 chevy blazer 2 wheel drive. Since purchasing the truck i have put a new crate engine 290 hp small block and rebuilt turbo 350. Got the ac working 3" exgaust power door locks and 20" wheels. I have purchased a lower kit that will drop the front 4" using tubular arms and 6" drop with a c-notch. I have repainted the truck since i brought it but there were areas i could not fix yet and i want to. I have rust under the windshield and im not sure how to repair it and i need to replace the channels in the rear window and the power window operates slow is that normal. Anyway im not the best but have had good help so far i just want to do my project well. I have over spent alot already with this truck doing things backwards or twice and i have a unhappy wife because of it. Now im looking for your advise to help me make the right decisions and where to buy the parts thanks guys.
Once i know how i will post picks.

HEy everybody! I just bought a 1979 k5 blazer. trouble is i know exactly doodley squat about automotive repair. however this site seems totally like the right place to start :D. I'm hoping to turn my impulse purchase into a monster machine and i'm already learning from the threads on here! i would tell you more about my truck except i have no idea what i have other than what the seller and dmv emissions test place have told. Seller said it was a 1979 Chevy blazer, it runs and has a "k5" and cheyenne markings. I dont know enough about automotives to tell what kind of engine (SHoulda paid more attention when dad was yelling explitives at his old beast of a chevy) i did just watch an episode of xtreme 4x4 that was talking about 14bolt axles (hope i got that right). Anyway I'm an :thinking:Electrician so I'm sure with the right guidance i can go from a comic book nerd to a gear head in a few gruelling years...:doah:

oh yeah and the emissions test place gave my monster machine a resounding F- and said i had had parts missing ( coal filter on the gas vapor somthin or another) an air system was completely missing but he wasn't sure it was required or only required in california ( no offense but everything including water is known to cause cancer in califas so...)and some hoses or something ... i dont know but one of the carbon monoxide idle standards is 220ppm and the readiung was 724ppm oh wait thats the hydrocarbons. the carbon monoxide standard was 2.00% and the reading was 9.33. and everything but the catalytic converter and fuel cap failed the equip/ pressure inspections

Noob from Cali

Whats up guys, I really like this site my buddy told me about it. I just bought my second K5 today, my last one I owned was 18 years ago. Hopefully I can learn some things while I'm here. :D

btw I'm having trouble getting it to run the last time it was started was in Nov. Is there a thread or section I can take a look at on here that would point me in the right direction?

Weapon x, sounds like you have a project on your hands. Your first task will be to get it running right and pass that test. Do some searching and posts any questions in "the garage". You may need to post up some pics and being a non paid member I think you will need to meet the 15 post minimum before you can post pics. Plenty of people here that can walk you through what needs to be done.

LIL90, again post up your questions in the garage for best results. We'll need more info about the truck too. Along with what does it do? What have you done to try and get it running? Stuff like that.

And Welcome!!!

hey 496 thx for the info can i post anywhere else but here if i'm not a paid member....

the saga continues today i took the air filter housing off and took a good look at the carborateur and found that most of the hoses leading either to or from the carb were cut short and stoppered with golf tees/ bolts/ screws. that makes sense since the charcoal canister and most of the emissions system is not there i was told.

i bought a Haynes book at the auto parts store to see what i could see . the book says for gmc/ chevy pick-ups 67-87 all 6 cyl inline 4.3l v6 and v8 gas engines suburban , blazer, jimmy. none of the pictures in the book match my engine./ on the back it says does not include deisel or gmc 305cu. in. v6 gas engine information. i think i have a v8 305. i know its a v8 8 wires on top of distributor = eight spark plugs = eight valves right?
the pics in the book show the small block v8 with the oil dipstick on the right looking at the motor/ cab from the front. it shows the big block with the dipsticks on the left for the atf and the oil like my motor. but the oil fill is on the right mine is on the left. the big block also shows the alternator on the righ mines on the left. other than that my engine compartment is very empty compared to the pictures n the book. i'm going back tomorrow to see if i can get a 79 k5 blazer specific book. gotta call the junkyard and or get prices while i'm at the parts store. :dunno: the transmission is leaking pretty good. first thing is the smog system hopefully that will also get rid of the gasoline smell as well.

Hello! My name is Jared and I'm from Kansas. I've owned several square body's and currently have an 84 K20 with a fresh 6.2/sm465, an 82 K20 with a 350/th400, and I'm in the process of buying my first blazer. It's mid 80's, 4wd, 6.2 with a blown head gasket and a fried 700r4. Body is in good shape though. Should be a fun project.

Been browsing the forums off and on for a few years now and finally joined up. Great site!
