Introductions & Greetings

New to the forum and K5 world

Well Good Morning Guys,

I Have always been crazy about the K5s and ran across a deal the other day I felt I had to jump on. So I talk the guy down to $500 from $1500 for an 84 K5 with a new Jasper 6.2 and a modern 700r4 (as I`m told) which is a 40LE60 if I`m not mistaken. Both engine and trans have less than 30k miles. One of the 3 previous owner wired it in and hacked the harness all up. So I would like to rewire it and take out the not so important stuff such as cruise control. However this is my first project an I am learning as I go and fortunately work with so knowledgeable folks. On top of that there is rust behind the front seats and rocker panels as well as the back of the bed. If anyone has any useful info or comments feel free to pass it along. Thank you for your time.

Stefan

The 700R4 became the 4L60 and then when they installed the computer controlled valve body it became the 4L60E. If someone swapped in a 4L60E it would have been wired up with a stand alone controller too. So look for that stuff. If the trans only has one plug on the drivers side of the case above the pan with 2 or 3 wires than it is the normal 700R4/4L60.

Not saying it doesn't have a 4L60E just giving you something to look for so you know exactly what you have.

Welcome to CK5!!!

Hey Everyone,

My name is Jamie and I'm a 73-91 Addict. Its been 3 weeks since I sold my last 89 K5. I am going through withdraws. I've been lurking here for many years and just decided to join. I hope I will have something to offer this great site and I am looking forward to becoming part of your community.

Hello

Hey guys, just bought a 91 K5, already put some wrench time in on it and looking forward to getting it road worthy. Born and raised in Georgia. Love the country here but my girlfriend really loves Colorado so I may move out there if she does. Looking forward to getting to know you all and chatting with you.

Hello. My name is John and I live in Laramie, Wyoming. I have a 1978 GMC Sierra Pick-up. Started out as a pure Mud Bogg truck, then my buddy Big Mike (Raiderblaz) talked me into doing a trail, rock and mud truck. Trying to get it ready for Blazerbash in July. What i have now is 42" tires, 52" springs, sm465 tranny, 205 tc, dana 60 front locker, 14 bolt ff rear locker, fox shocks and disc brakes. New 468 big block (hope to get fuel injection install). Custom narrowed and lowered front body and narrowed rear body. Moving radiator and batteries to bed with custom gas tank and custom roll cage. I am the type of guy that doesnt know much mechanically. But lucky for me I have many friends that do. LOL. I like to get in, start, and take off. I am learning more and more everyday. I have been helping Big Mike (Raiderblaz) finish up his badass blazer. I get to tighten bolts and do all the grunt stuff, but learning more as I go. Excited to get my truck up and running. Thanks John

Hello from SoCal!
Had to put my first post in here.

Just picked up an 85 k5 6.2L. Steering was a nightmare and the PO wired it up so that a stroke victim could empathize with the gauges.

Looking forward to the community here. This site was definitely a selling point for me buying a blazer instead of another jeep. I did a cj5 build a few years ago, but I wanted something new.

I just finished a steering shaft replacement and I'll have some pictures of the frankenstein shaft i had to mod and pics of the rig to post up soon.

So a preemptive thanks for the assistance from everyone here.

Hello everybody. They call me backwardboggers here in the Pacific NW. I wheel the piss out of my 84 K5. Lots of mods done and still a work in progress. I'm involved with one of the biggest forums here th PNW and we do alot of events and trail runs. Mostly at Tillamook State Forest.
Glad to be here. Lots of info..

I love seeing pics of wheeling in the PNW. The forests and mountains are just awesome. Bump up that post count and show us some pics!

Hi everyone,

I live out in Yucaipa, CA and am looking to research and learn as much as I can about the K5 before I buy one in the next few months. I'm looking for something that's reliable and fun just for some moderate off roading and camping. I basically want something reliable, with no computer, sb350, smog exempt. Looking at pre-76 if I can find one without any rust. I look forward to reading all the past posts. Thx.

New guy

I'm in the Tampa Bay Florida area. Just bought a 1975 Blazer out of Las Vegas. Looking to read up on threads from all the experts. I love tinkering and have wanted one for along time. I bought it for myself for my 42nd B-day at the end of this month.

I'll add a pic when ot comes in.

Hello everyone. I have come into possession of my father's 84 GMC Jimmy and am planning my restoration. It has been sitting in a pasture for the last few years so it will take some time before it is road worthy again. In addition, I am about as far from a mechanic as a guy can be so this will be my first time trying to so this sort of thing. Fortunately I have several friends who are not as inept as I and will be helping with the project.

I came to this site to start learning about what I am up against. I look forward to the process and am excited to get started.

NEW MEMBER, but not new to blazers at all.

Hello all, My name is Benjamin, and am a new member here.

I acquired last month a 1991 K5 blazer 4x4. It had a mild lift and 8 lug conversion the first week I got it. And that was about it.

In the last 3 1/2 weeks, I put new 35" tires and weld evo wheels on the truck, sourced another 14 bolt rear axle with disc brakes to put on, ordered a new Westcoastengines.com 350ci/350hp kit with roller rockers (because the stock 210hp blows). Put in a new sound system with some interior parts re-carpeted at the same time. All new 6" lift springs in the front with all new energy suspension bushings, including new ball joints for the steering and knuckles, and did some brake work. The list keeps growing as I go along, but I should be done with it in another month or so, including more interior carpet work, all new lights/mirrors/tail lights/floor carpet and last but not least a new paint job.

Phweeeew.

Any how....Here I am!

Brake work, new tires n wheels

Hey folks, I just picked up anew toy and I'm excited to learn and share. I've been working so hard with no play time, when I saw this 1983 gmc jimmy 4wd 6.2 diesel, I drove it home that afternoon! Its a sweet rig only 74k original miles.:waytogo: it was an old mans hunting rig, and the miles were hard ones, but the engine fires right up with no smoke at all. I'm excited to learn about diesels and especially about the jimmy:D

Hello all, new guy here from PA, looking forward to learning some new and old tricks from the pro's.
