Well, honestly after building that red CJ for my buddy thats in a couple of those pictures, I'd rather buy the stuff. I think hes got about $400 in materials/parts/etc. But I did cross-over and highsteer for him, and 1 1/2" .250 wall DOM for his draglink and tie-rod. It super beefy but it was a pain in the ass with it having a spring-over and full width axles.

I got the spead sheet from the steering on that CJ and for crossover/highsteer it was $756.67. I got some C-channel to fix the rear body mount/tailgate mount x-member since the previous owner is a doomass. Also just picked up a starter for it since mine is shot. I have thought about taking it apart and cleaning it up, but I'm like screw it. Also a friend of mine is in cahoots with a guy who owns a junkyard and hes gonna see about gettin me a truck with a 4spd. I figured I'd junk it for scrap metal and get most of my money back out of it.

So I found another transmission, I drove the truck yesterday. Sadly its an auto, but Im having trouble finding a 32 spline SM465 and matching Tcase. The guy wants $350 for the trans, crossmember, t-case, driveshafts, and all the nuts and bolts. Only problem is its out of a 85 K10. The trans shifts firm and no evidence of flares or slipping. With mine being a 87 I can swap the valve body since an 87 trans is ECM control (converter lockup and what not). Ive talked to my trans guy and he said it will work, but him nor I can remember if it has a 4 prong plug on the housing or not. With out driving 20 mins to go look at this truck again, can anyone tell me??

Well after search for half the day I finally got my answer. I can just simply swap the valve bodies and all will be good to go. I figured a shift kit while I'm in there and a new converter wouldn't be a bad idea.

Put my 8 lug outters in my front axle, I still have to put the 4.10s in it. I'm going to wait till I buy a lockrite for the front before I tear it down that far.

A couple pictures of the interior since I bedlinered the floor.

The hole that the previous owner/dumbass put some galvanized steel over and pop riveted it down under the carpet, that I am having to rebuild the crossmember and bed floor.

I'm picking up driveshafts and my rear axle sunday, and a piece of a tailgate to make my patch panel for the above picture.

Your rust looks a lot less than mine in the rear floor area. Does that POR15 stuff work? I am considering that or rust bullet

I haven't used that. I've just used the rust over primer stuff from autozone. I think rustolume (sp?) makes it. I've got the c-channel cut for the rear and clamp in position for the crossmember but I've got to burn it on. Balancing working on my rig and then doing side work is starting to keep me from working on my rig.

Got a 14 bolt sf rear for $100 today, the tailgate panel to build a patch panel for the rear, and 8 lug nuts (had to order the rest). Well I got a hell of a deal on the rear axle with 4.10 open carrier that matches the 4.10 I have for the front. Bad part is the rear axle is missing everything off one of the backing plates. Right now I'm price hunting shoes, hardware kit, wheel cylinders, and drums.

Just put disk brakes on the 14 bolt.

Exactly, by the time you replace all the missing stuff and do a brake job on the other side too your cost is going to be on up toward what disks would cost you anyway.

And it is safe to say the axle shafts are the size if not thicker than a jack handle..

yeah I found I was missing 1 allen head bolt out of each side. evidently someone at the shop I used to work at where my K5 sat for a year needed them more than I did. I still have to find a replacement for those.

Well time to dig this old thread back up. Ive finally freed up some funds to put more money in my K5 (thanks uncle sam). And Here are some pics of where I left off.

goal now is to find a trans/tcase. i thought i was gonna get one a couple months back but couldnt get a hold of the guy. im ditching the 14 bolt semi floater and hopefully finding a 4.10 geared full floater. ive already got everything but the pads and rotors to convert the rear to disc (minus the brake hoses to connect the metal line to the calipers) im going to do the poor mans slip yoke eliminator and take a yoke a drill and tap a hole in the output shaft. the kit is $500 and includes a rear driveshaft. needs a radiator, the front gears set up, redo he wiring on the starter, power steering pump, air cleaner and it should be alive and well and back on the road minus a front driveshaft. i really just want to drive it once around town before i ship out.
