The body isn't really falling off, it flexes a lot. But I would like to get the tank out of the bed for more space, that would require redo on the exhaust.
It would make a truck that I can use more often, more of the seasons, with more body and better heat and cooling. I can only take one passenger at a time, so that limits taking the wife and daughter.

I know that several people will think that I am crazy or stupid, but I didn't really buy thus truck to go do trails like Pritchett or Die Trying.

Leaf springs are shot, frame is bent. Seats are hammered, top doesn't fit right

Another frame with newer leaf springs, Doubler, in frame tank with skid plate. Door that work on another body, with a functional hardtop

Real question is, why haven't you started prepping the frame? No matter what you do, the 79 frame needs cleaned up

I’m looking for a four letter word to complete this sentence... “things that go **** in the night”

So since you rattled this thread, I went to ORD the other day, they will let me know when I need to pick up springs at Alcan.
I have a couple if parts here already for the '79 frame..
I washed it the other day, found some rust on the inside that I will do something about, not sure what yet....
Definitely will be getting rid of the multiple colors of rattle can, or hiding it..
I haven't pulled the engine out of the '72 yet, need to to find out why it uses a little coolant... I think that it's my karma with coolant.....
Found some small bumped up places on the '79 frame that I can't explain yet...
But I already pulled the trans and doubler , and fixed them tonight...

If you look at the upper frame flanges at the back of the 205, you will see the bumps. I did have a dumba** moment ,
which made the frame drop off of the forklift and drop 2 feet or more to the concrete. Since there is an axle under the rear, I had the front hanging from a chain. Thr front spring hangers hit. Don't know if that impact was enough, and i can't remember if the bumps were there before. The sliders on this were welded to the body at one time, I believe because when I step on them, there is good amount of twisting/ flex of the rail...

Is the body falling off? It seemed all together everytime i have seen it. It's a cool rig would hate to see it go but i understand the need for luxurys.
After reading this post again, I wanted to defend my princess level....
:haha:

One of my wants in wheeler is a back seat, so that I have a small chance of getting more passengers. (My wife and daughter)
With no rear seat at all, the '72 has no chance without lots of work.

My buddy had his attached to the frame only. When we pulled the body off the frame twisted a lot when you put weight on them.

Thanks for the info!!!!

It had me back to thinking about boxing again.....

Or put the body back on. Haha.

His frame doing that on his truck is why I've just welded my sliders to the body.

So I picked up the new front springs today. After talking with Chris, (and standing next to a blue long bed with a 12V...) I decided to go with a 3" front spring along with the 1" body lift that I have. I will see how it all works out with the FUSH, HD shackles and D60. He set the axle forward 1" and I will see how much things change. I wanted to try and keep the height reasonable to help diminish any feeling of not wanting to drag my bad knee up into it.....
But of course that means more work to do with protecting the belly.

I gotta get working on this.....

So not much to report for today's progress. I straightened the top rails of the frame the other night by wrapping a chain around the middle tubes of the sliders, across the top to both side. Ratchet binder pulled the rails in, then hammer down. Final finesse with a big cresent wrench.
Today I started late, but I had already put it in the main shop last night. Pulled the sliders to clean the frame, plus I don't have a final plan for that anyway. My old knee could use a step that is better than what these did in the kicked up position.
Knocked the upper shackle mounts out of the front..
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!! WHY DO SO MANY COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RIVETS!!!!

As I found in the past, I kinda like knocking the rivets out. I had the brackets on the floor in less than 15 minutes. Good tools make it easy!!

Got the holes all done to install the ORD parts, and welded up a couple of holes that weren't in good spots.
Started cleaning to get rid of rust and flat tan paint...
Sprayed a little rust encapsulator on a few places on the inside since i didn't have enough time to do as much as I wanted.

So now, to whine a little bit....
I am having a difficult time not going over the top with cleaning this. I know that in under an hour, I could have a bare frame to take to the blaster..... but I don't have the spare cash to pay for that, and then paint....
Plus I have to remember that this is to go play in the dirt and rocks!!!!!

Done whining.........

wire wheel and some rattle cans it'll be just fine!! That's already cleaner than all of the vehicles in my driveway.

Yeah, I hear ya, but I still have to adjust my attitude....
I did use a wire wheel some, but it was a little large for some of the inside.
I did some more cleaning and just have to wait until another day to finish.

I found the 3m paint stripper wheels worked pretty good on the light frame rust removal. I used a smaller wire wheel in the tight areas.
