1/2 ton status
I like it, frame work looks decent, that`s the important part.
I want to see pics of the rear spring forward hangers and shots of the rear shock mounts on the axle housing. And an overall view of the rearend from looking at the cover.i know they make one. thats what i need.
i just measured my truck, and the inside of the spring is only 1-5/8" from the frame and in that picture it looks more like 3". maybe its just the picture, but it looks funny.
i agree with crawdaddy, that a 3/4 ton axle was prob easier to deal with than a drw axle.

And put it between the frame rails. Thinking of doing a burb tank so it would be 40 gal. I have another 14bff with 4.10's, disc conversion, and a detroit that I will swap in.

I'll take a stab at the frame cuttin'.
My guess is that the truck was converted to 4x4 at some point, then later on someone decided to put a short bed on it. It would explain the two splices, and why they were plated in two different ways.

Exactly.The frame was a 1984 4wd to start.
i have the vins decode, but bascly the cab is an 88, 2wd, 1 ton, crew cab, 6.2 diesel, assy. plant was janesville, WI, and the frame is a 84, 4wd, 1 ton, crew cab, 454 bb, assy. plant was st.louis, MO. both chevys made in the us not gmc or canadan. last 6 of each vin is the serael number.

Ok, the cab is an '88 and the frame is an '84.
Is the '84 frame a true crewcab frame of just a standard 131.5" wheelbase K30 frame?
If its the standard frame, I'm beginning to wonder if someone cut out the 2wd frame section of the '88 to add/graft onto the '84 frame to make it longer to fit the crewcab body.
And then they shortened the frame to fit a shortbed.
