K10: Built HP60/241-205 Doubler/tons of tube

i hear ya. after having a set of H1's, i really want to try the aluminum wheel for a bit, the damn h1 setup is just so frickin heavy. although when your tire weights 100 some odd pounds i guess it doesnt really matter right.

Yeah that's how I see it, I have gearing for days and don't really care about the weight. I just don't want to mess with what I've heard of constant torqueing and the possibility of a broken bolt since they are just threaded into the face of the wheel. I'm working on another deal that came up this morning, might work out for me.

Most of the aluminum beadlocked wheels are pretty freakin heavy too. More than likely not as heavy as a H1 but way heavier than you think

huh. whoda thunk it.

well it looks like i'm picking up some 37s on 17s and just going to find some H2s to put em on.
good luck with your deal avery, sorry for the hijack

I got the aluminum panels cut out and shaped. I picked up some stainless hardware to get them mounted but I have family in town and a birthday dinner tonight so this might be all I can squeeze in today without ticking everyone off. :)

Drove up north after church this afternoon and met up with a friend to buy some new tires for the truck. I was within days of pulling the trigger on some new iroks but stumbled across him selling this setup so I jumped on it.

38.5" boggers and a 38.5" tsl for a spare all on steel wheels plus a set of four DIY style beadlocks that I'll put the boggers on. Should work well and for the money I couldn't pass it up.

Made some good plans for this week and should be busting out dash stuff quickly in the evenings after work.

From Trxus to Boggers, pretty extreme........

Martin

I worked my way up. :D

Bought some 39.5" TSL's in the summer, sold them for a profit. Took that money and bought those STS's since they were about the right size so I could build the truck kind of around them and have a way to test drive it then sold those for a profit. Now I'm finally into these which I'm going to stick with.

But yeah, it's kind of funny if you just look at going from STS mall crawler tires to a set of boggers. :haha:

Oh I completely understand, it just made me laugh thinking about it. I wish there were more large used tires around here. Small population, plus no rocks + lots of 35x12.50's........

Martin

Gotcha. Didn't know that as i know you wheeled it in sand before

Continue :thumb:

I didn't really make that clear ever but with this recent transformation this is just a crawler now. In time I'll figure out what I want to build as a go fast/sand toy. I do love going to pismo and won't stop that... just need a better toy for it now.

Same here, that's why when these popped up even over 2 hours away I jumped on it. Most of the large tires around here are toyo or sts mall crawler tires on HUGE rims. Or it's guys with stuff like 40" goodyear original MTR's and they think they're gold because they don't make them anymore and want too much.

Making progress on the dash. I hinged the switch panel, figured out how I'm going to latch it and got the passenger panel done with it's vent...

I'm using stainless hardware with stainless finishing washers. I think they look kind of cool...

Switch panel in place with hinge. It's just resting up in this picture. Once I'm done with the wiring I'm going to epoxy some magnets I got and they'll keep it sucked tight against those little plates that are tacked in.

..and down.

My dad cleaned up and painted my beadlock rings in my blue...

We pulled the windshield out too so I can finish weld everything on the top/back of the dash area...

I like your idea of the magnets on your switch panel cover. I wonder if I could get that to work on my stock glove box lid because I can't get the latch to hold tight anymore and it's rattling and driving me nuts! Magnets are a good idea. :waytogo:

You're really coming along with this build. This is one time when it pays to be a single man for sure. Lots of time and some spare cash to throw at your ride. I know yours will be one of the coolest trucks on this site when it's done. Keep it up!

The thing I love about it, is nothing is really groundbreakingly different or new. Just good common sense decisions that should make for a well balanced and extremely effective package

Finished up the lower center panel and made a mount for the CB to poke through. The two rectangle holes fit the switches for my ARB compressor and front locker. I wanted them to be different than the other switches and easier to reach since they'll see the most use.

Also got started on the center switch panel. Simple but effective, I really only need 3 switches for now (lights) so 3 are extra. I was going to do a 12 switch setup but really just didn't see the need. If I outgrow this setup it'd be easy to cut another rectangle panel and make a different one down the road...
