K10: Built HP60/241-205 Doubler/tons of tube

Yes, what was the point of telling me what I already knew? I was pointing out a curve kit would make a large difference in the power.

Avery has a really awesome thread here, let's not dick it up like a bunch of pirates.

Ok back to work! I've had a few things come up this week that slowed stuff down. One of the best things was a surprise visit from my grandpa's brother and his wife from Stephenville, Texas! I don't see them hardly at all and we had a blast. He is retired and runs a company called HWH Pulling. He travels around to tractor pull events and provides the sled. I wish he lived closer, we have a lot in common.

So today I ran new stainless braided lines for the transmission since the old steel ones were getting really rusty and were kinked in a few spots. Before anyone freaks and ruins 10 pages of the build thread I'm aware that it's just running through the aftermarket cooler and not through the radiator then the cooler. I'm aware some guys live in the frozen tundra and are convinced that this method will never let the trans warm up. I'm trying it and if it doesn't work like I want I'll re-route stuff and plumb it the other way. I had the radiator boiled so when I brought it home I put inverted flare plugs in the trans cooler lines so it stays clean in case I want to use it down the road.

I ordered what I thought was the correct brackets to use this radiator off LMC but I guess another piece goes in here on an OEM setup. Not sure but I made it work and it looks clean so I'm running it. I just had to use some 1" square tube to space the mounts out and it was good to go.

Also mounted a big 19" flex fan. I've had it for a little while but didn't have the right spacer so I ordered one this week. It showed up with two 5/16" coarse and two 5/16" fine thread bolts so I had to track down two more fine thread bolts before I could get it buttoned up. It was just a day of running around it felt like...

I had to go to two stores and buy three lower radiator hoses before I found one that would work. Ended up getting a hose for a big block application instead of a small block. The outlets are off just enough from my old radiator to this one that it was kinking it a little and rubbing hard on the frame. So that took a bunch of time today but now it's done and I don't have to worry about it.

Tomorrow I'll work on the valve covers. I need to drill holes (eek!) for the breathers and PCV valve and get them mounted with new gaskets. Then all I have left is to drop the new distributor in and run the new plug wires and we'll fire it up.

Fwiw My blazer came with a6mo old new flex fan and it exploded and took out my radiator with a wot 1-2 shift.

I know others have had issues with em too. i dont trust em

No problems running a flex fan for many years without a shroud. I might not live in a dessert like you, but I had no overheating problems.

Avery, I'm sure you may have mentioned it but any reason for using a flex fan instead of electric?

I have a shroud but it doesnt fit this radiator. I guess there were tall and short radiators and single and two piece shrouds. I have a one piece shroud and need a two piece.
I will look at it tomorrow and see if I can cut it up and make it work.

I've heard both sides of the exploding flex fan issue but there are a lot of guys running them with no issues. Yellowk20, I want to simplify this truck and on our last big trip I lost my alternator and with the big electric fan running I couldnt go more than 15 minutes sometimes between charges. I like the idea of the lightweight, low power robbing flex fan so I went with it.

I would run a stock clutch fan over ANY flex fan. Horsepower stealers.

Whats going on here with this thread lately??? :dunno: Seems like every update turns into an 2 page discussion about his choice. :doah: Good job Avery! Truck looks killer! :waytogo:

Makes sense, sometimes simpler is better.

and for those who complain about flex fans, I've seen quite a few stock clutch fans chuck there blades through the hood

I don't know but it sure isn't very much motivation to go out of my way to take pictures and post them.
