K10: Built HP60/241-205 Doubler/tons of tube

Crap. NP241? I did something similar to an NP208 a few years back while driving onto a big log. I had been hearing it make bad sounds all day but just ignored it (naturally). I didn't have the sense to try to put it back in 2wd. I just hit the gas and made it worse. Turns out it was the planetary gear set. Had a big crack in the planetary housing right by one of the side gears.
 
Yeah it's a 241. I had it apart a couple years back because like many of them the chain stretched and rubbed through the lower part of the case.
So I bought a new chain, cleaned everything out and JB Welded the worn out area of the case.
It held fluid just fine and I thought everything was good but apparently not. I have a friend with a 241 at his property he's going to look into for me. If it'll work I'll just buy it whole off of him and do a Saturday switch-a-roo and get it going again.

I personally love my 52's up front. Never had a point that I have thought I want to go back to 4" lift springs in the front. (sorry, couldn't help myself but to chime in on this....I just get a little sick of people doggin the 52 swap, so I have to plug in something good for it :D)

Truck looks good though Avery. One of the coolest truggy's on the site for sure :waytogo:
 
I think the 52in swap has its place in our world. Its nice if you can get away with stock 52s and replace them as easily as a junkyard trip. I prefer the ORD 50in springs myself, as you leave the stock mounts and they will use up a 14in travel shock without giving up approach angle and the greater risk of front axle wheel hop. But, the 52s are a viable option for some people looking for extreme flex and compared to ORDs custom springs, reduced cost.

That being said, my BDS front stock length springs use up quite a bit of my 14in shocks and flex great, plus ride as good as a truck on 39s could. No complaints here.
 
We're going to Hollister Friday/Saturday so I decided to give the truck some love. Did some maintenance stuff like change belts and moved my PSC reservoir into a new spot that I think will work better and not vibrate nearly as much.

Knocked out some new storage out back. The old toolbox sucked and the latch broke in Pismo so it just had to go. Ordered three 20mm ammo cans and sunk them down between the frame rails. They're all just welded in place "permanently".

I swapped out my 102" SS whip antenna for a fiberglass one. My neighbor has an SWR meter so he's going to come by one evening this week and we'll get it tuned in.

I also added some tube to my sliders to get them out past the doors. I got both sides finished and tacked in place but it got really windy so I'll finish weld them one night this week when it's calm.



 
Everything looks real good. I never noticed the big can up on your basket. Maybe find some grip tape for those tubes on the sliders. When they get cold and wet they become shin knockers.
 
Looking good. +1 on the grip tape. Where did you get the ammo cans?

Yeah it's bolted in place up there through the basket. It has all my fluids in it. I might not need it now if I pack nice and neat but it doesn't hurt and seals up well enough to just leave it there all the time.

My dad said the same thing about the grip tape.

I love seeing people use old military surplus on their trucks. There's so many uses for that kind of stuff. I have the same 20mm can in my m1009 as a center console. Keep up the great work Avery!
 
I use one for my center console too. I even screwed some cupholders on it.

One time this girl at work had a flat tire, so I gave her a ride. While we were riding in my truck to the gas station, I asked her how she liked my center console. She looked down at the ammo can and said "is this homemade or what?" :haha:

I cut two holes into the top of mine and have drop in cup holders :D

I was looking at the dimensions and it's not clear which is height and which is length. Is it 17" tall or 17" long?
 
Hey Avery, amazing truck and really a great job on the build! I've read the whole thing atleast twice and some pages more then that. It's very inspirational and a lot of ideas I have for my truck have come from your truck so I hope you don't mind. It's also really cool that your pretty local and wheel in the same places I will be and have been to. I'm just south of you in porterville. I picked up a 73 k10 that I've begun collecting parts for to do a rebuild on. 60/14ff, np205, crossover/hyrdo assist, ez-rides/56s and shackle flip, propane injection ect...
Just wanted to say great job on the build! Maybe see you on the trail someday!
 
Thanks. I was actually standing outside with my dad after dinner discussing the future of the ol' k10. It's been fun but I think I need to "finish" it and tweak some stuff. It's time to tube out the front and skin it with some fresh sheetmetal as well as address some bump stop issues in the front.
