K10 gets an ass transplant

2 more votes in...

I voted too, just now...sorry missed it before.

No problem. Voting is over for now until they select the final 8. You can still vote now to push them to 101 but it will default back to 100 once you leave the screen. If my pic get chosen for the final 8 I'll post up a link. Thanks anyway

So while I’ve been crawling around under the truck and mopping up oil with my hair I noticed the 205 had been tossing some oil, which pissed me off because I really really hate leaks. The fact I jumped through my very own asshole to carefully seal this 205 makes me that much more upset. At first it looked like just the rear output seal was leaking then once I got the yoke off I had a sudden revelation about being over budget during the NV4500/205 rework back in 2013 and using a yoke that should have gone into the trash. The yoke had pretty deep wear marks in it where the seals have been riding for decades. I thought about getting a Speedy Sleeve but thought better of myself so a quick poke of a computer mouse and exchange of emails with Chris at ORD a nice high quality yoke appeared the next day.

Anxious to get the work travel out of the way to start putting this all back together. The story of the NV4500/205 redo back in 2013 is HERE starting at post 284 (thought I had it on CK5 too but can’t find it)

Well, things are happening slowly but surely. Finally got the ARB Twin compressor and tank mounted as well as the outside air outlet plumbed. Still waiting on a few more fittings to plumb the compressor to the tank and finish up the compressor wiring. You can see the compressor wiring still dangling from under the truck

A second gauge viewable from the driver seat. This was a last minute idea as I was cobbling fittings together so I ran back to farm store for one more gauge. Sure beats running a gauge into the cab. Just hope those gauges live out there in the weather and vibration.

The nifty ARB air hose reached all four tires too!

I really like the install of the system so far. The second gauge was smart. Good work dude!

The K10 got a small test drive yesterday. The Big Bad Wolf blew down our fence last week then we’ve had nothing but rain and snow since. Yesterday the ground was finally dry enough to winch it back up without pulling the poles out of the ground. The fence is trashed….poles bent, 2x4’s and pickets broken everywhere but at least it is standing up and will make due until I have time to rebuilt it in a few weeks. Always something! :mad2:

The truck idled for about an hour while I winched on the fence and almost ran out of gas. Poor truck hasn't had a drink of gas since last June. It still doesn’t have shocks but I took it for a slow stroll to the gas station anyway. Sure is nice to do U-turns in the gas station parking lot now without 3 point turns. I almost forgotten how short of turning radius short beds have.

Once the fence was pretty close to straight up each pole had to be pulled to the West

Then today we got this! So glad I got the fence back up before this big soaker came in.

It was heavy wet soaker that we desperately needed. Also a good excuse to saddle up the Polar Bear to take the little one to daycare with detours along the way

Made a lame little GoPro along the way too. This hill is actually really steep and greasier than Danny’s hair in Greased Lightening

Still got a lot left to do to the K10.....stay tuned

Dude, that's about some flat, empty, open country you got there.. I'll bet the winds move pretty good

Sorta kinda, not really. There is a lot of different topography out here but we’re at the top of a plateau with wide open high desert to the West of us. When it blows….it blows! Hence, my signature “Windy Corner of a Dirty Street”. Its not much different than your area of AZ.

The entire area got smacked really hard last Thursday night on through Friday afternoon with Hurricane force winds. It was crazy! I was working in the shop until about 11 PM Thursday night and when I opened the shop door I couldn’t even see the house there was so much dirt blowing around. The entire Pueblo and Pueblo West area took a big hit… We fared much better than others with only a downed fence and about a dozen shingles ripped off but we gained a soccer ball and a huge stainless steel dog bowl. Others had garage doors imploded, complete roofs ripped off, broken windows, RVs tipped over and all kinds of crazy stuff. In town where there are a lot of big old trees many of them fell and smashed cars. The storm made National news.

Here are a few of the area…

Frito-Lay truck got blown over on Hwy 50 last Friday morning. One of many high-profile rigs that got blown over

Whoa... that looks like Texas wind damage. The town just south of had us some pretty good damage last weekend, but hardly touched us here in the Metroplex.

Glad you didn't have too much damage.

Rob

Wow!

We also live on the top of the hill, dirt feilds all around us for miles and can get very windy here too!
How dusty does it get inside your house?
Ours gets disgusting!

Oh, hell yes! Especially after this last storm. We had silt drifts on the kitchen counter, table and floor. The poor dogs water looked like mud puddle :haha:

Lol!
Is it just that dry there that nothing grows? Were do you guys get your water from?

Yeah, pretty arid around here. The native vegetation are tumble weeds, sage, yucca and cactus with a few pinion trees scattered around. We get our water out of the faucet

And we get a lot of these damn things.... and Rattle Snakes, Red Racers and Bull Snakes. First time I ever had one in the shop tho. Scare the s hit out of me

Well, she definitely has a wider stance in the rear now although the fender flares help hide it in these views. Maybe a tall taller too. The ORD spring perches must be a little taller than the OEM perches but I think it will be alright. Once I load it up for a trip it ought to settle right down to level.

Next up I still need to install the drive shaft and start working on the driveline angles then weld in the spring perches. After that, measure it up for Bilstein 7100’s then figure out where the hell I am going to mount the air compressor and air tank. Oh, yeah....still need to build some brake lines for the axle too. Still pisses me off nobody makes a E-locker for a 14 bolt :dunno:
:haha:

OK, so you've mentioned the e-locker a few times (which I currently have in my 14SF). I also have 4.10 gears on 33's, but just went up to 35's, so I was looking around at 4.56 gears. What I ran into was a few comments about larger tires NOT being recommended for the E-Locker. That just seemed weird and crazy. In fact, one site indicated only use factory sized tires with the E-Locker!

That is interesting! I tell ya, as nice as the ARB Twin compressor is that includes a nice an easy plug and play harness for the compressor and both axle locker solenoids I'll probably end up going with an ARB in front too. Hell, everything is all set to go. I just need the front ARB and run a short piece of line. Also need another friggen $1000 to buy the front locker though! The front will have to wait until I recover from everything else including rebuilding a fence I hadn't had planned into the budget :mad2:
