K10 gets an ass transplant

That's quite a nice shop spider you've grown there. Is that your mascot?

:haha:Probably should be. A few days after this one showed up Rob (Zoomad75) was here working on something and another tarantula went strolling by the side of the shop. There all over in late summer/Early Fall. I’m just glad I wasn’t working under that green truck when he showed up as I would have needed stitches in my head and be treated for a heart attack. Luckily, I had just ran down to the shop to grab a Coke and saw him just standing there by the bucket staring at me like he was the boss. I was worried he was going to whip my ass with that chain hanging out of that tool box

might need to fill those fence posts with concrete!

I agree! I told the wife the same thing. At least one bag of Quickcrete in each. This is the 3rd time the fence has blown down. The first time when the house was new (2004) then about a year later. The builder fixed it both times but we found they were using short poles where barely 4 inches of the pole was in the ground. Those poles didn't bend, the entire concrete blob popped out of the ground. The poles in the ground now go down more than a foot. I agree, had the had some concrete in them they may not have bent over the way they did.

That's funny, my folks live off west McCulloch. The dog plays with them.

I've yet to have one of those 8 legged furry bastards surprise me over at Larry's house. I don't have the issue with them that Larry does, but if one was to come out from under a truck I'm under it might be another story.

That guy did get my attention. Thank goodness I wasn't under the trailer.

Yeah, pretty arid around here. The native vegetation are tumble weeds, sage, yucca and cactus with a few pinion trees scattered around. We get our water out of the faucet

And we get a lot of these damn things.... and Rattle Snakes, Red Racers and Bull Snakes. First time I ever had one in the shop tho. Scare the s hit out of me

Hehe, wondered if you would catch that. Well, the water from the faucet comes from a huge Reservoir built on the Arkansas River right next to us so we’re good with water. It is like a miniature Lake Mead

I took this picture a couple weeks ago flying from Colorado Springs to Salt Lake as we flew right over PW. I live just to the right of that lake about a mile as the crow flies… Lake Pueblo

Finally wrapping up the latest project upgrades just two weeks shy of Desert Trip 2017 departure date. Between work, work travel, family stuff and waiting on parts (looking at you ARB and Bilstein!) this project seems to have taken forever leaving me very little validation time to sort out any issues before we leave. Fortunately, we have one weekend to do a validation run to the mountains (next weekend).

Here is how things turned out….

So once the rear was all finished up I moved to the front to clean up the frame for the Bilstein 7100’s. While doing so I noticed the steering gear was starting to leak out of the pitman shaft so I pulled it to do a warranty exchange at Napa. Then, once I got the box off and started stripping the frame I found a typical small crack near the steering gear. Fortunately, the crack was very small but I did the full-on frame kit from ORD anyway (its had the ORD strg brace for 10+ years already). I’m not sure how fresh this crack is…it could have been there a long time. Probably wouldn’t have noticed it until I used paint stripper on the frame

We followed the instructions and only welded the areas the instructions state then used auto body seam sealer around the plate to seal it to the frame to keep grime from settling in between the plate and frame

Also treated it to a Borgeson Steering shaft since it was a good time to do so

And the final results…

Since the rear was looking pretty the front got a fresh paint job too.

Air supply…

So this thing really pissed me off. I got it fired up a few weeks ago after waiting almost 3 weeks on a harness only to find the compressor would quickly built 155 psi then turn off and immediately turn right back on while hissing air the entire time. After a call to ARB it was in the box going back for inspection where they found a small piece of powder coat was causing an o-ring not to seal so that was another 2 week delay. In total, ARB cost me almost 6 to 7 weeks lost time while waiting on them to send parts or sort out warranty work. Very frustrating! (missing o-rings from the RD114 locker = 2 week wait because they forgot to send me the o-rings, ordered an extra harness to extend the switches into the cab = 3 weeks because, you guessed it….they forgot to ship it then lost 2 weeks on the compressor repair…..not too sure yet how impressed I am with ARB!). That rant said, I will say I am very impressed with this twin compressor! It builds pressure fast and just works so well! Hope it keeps working..

And no, I am not worried about this gauge hitting the cab during flex. I’ve watched this truck flex for 20 years and pretty much know where the contact point would be

The front locker isn’t in the budget until later in the year but the nice thing about the ARB harness is everything is prewired and ready for it although I am not sure I want to give ARB another penny. Might just use an E-locker in the front. We’ll see

So after all that I was finally able to put about 30 miles on it the other day running up and down the highway and hitting some of the bumpiest roads we have out here. All I can say is WOW!!!! Talk about a completely different truck. Between getting rid of that stinking Detroit Locker that cause the truck to dart one direction or the other with throttle input and being able to do sharp turns without the herkie jerky tire barking experience of the Detroit is so nice. And those Bilsteins and Borgeson shaft leave this thing so planted to the ground with great handling and ride. I just can’t believe how well this big heavy tank goes, stops, steers and handles…. it is actually kind of hilarious. Wish the Polar Bear burb and stock Silvy HD handled and rode this nice. I can’t wait to meet its new personality once I get it off road next weekend on a test run before the June 11th Desert Trip departure date

:burnout:

Sexy shocks, how much did those run you?

Pretty much two bones a piece. Could almost buy a set of tires for what they cost :( The truck is just too damn heavy now to be running cheap buy 3 get one free shocks.

What bilsteins are you running? And how much lift do you have?

Bilstein 7100’s as mentioned above. Lift is a good question….it has 4” Superlift front springs with ORD HD shackles while the rear is a concoction of ORD flip shackles, ORD spring perches and homemade springs spring packs. After this latest axle swap the rear is a tad taller than the front probably because the ORD spring perches are taller than OEM perches but it should settle down to close to level once it is loaded for the road

Shocks...
AK7112SB06 in rear
AK7110SB01 in front

I have no flippen idea if that is good valving or not but it is what the Bilstein goons recommended for the weight and purpose of the truck. They feel really good but we'll see how they act once they bounce around on the trail for 8 hours at a time :dunno:

Excellent work as usual. One might think you were crazy to get everything so clean and then go get it all dirty again. I'll be sure to get a good roost of dirt going in front of you to aid in getting it dirty.

I got to pick up some death wheels for my time in the shop tomorrow. See you then!

Wow that is a weird combination actually because the fronts are 150/50 and the backs are 360/80 which would make sense if you used dual 7100s up front. Should be interesting if it does work. I guess your springs are probably pretty firm so not much compression valving is required. Your not hauling butt either so maybe that was their thought. Report back I'm really interested in this!
Looks awesome btw almost too clean to get dirty!
