Kansas's 83 c10 dailydriver (8/23/2011 should I swap from 83-84 grille to an 85-88?)

just looks worlds better than the 83-84 to me. I prefer the 89-91 singles better, but those are hard to come by.

GMC grilles are vastly better looking than any of the Chevy grilles. I'd swap to one of those over any year Chevy grille if I was in your shoes.

emblems, tailgate band, etc etc. Although if going 89-91 dual headlights, i like the gmcs more. Thanks for your opinion though.

I challenge you to find me a 73-87 Chevy grille that is even half as good lookin as this one...

Fender emblems and tailgate bands are damn easy to swap.

The Chevy Egg Crate will never look half as good good as any of the GMC grilles. There is not a single year from 73-91 where I think the Chevy grille was better looking than the GMC counterpart.

If only GMC hadn't used the name Jimmy...which just sounds ghey compared to Blazer.

Picked up a new fender and fan shround from lmc today, 90 bucks for a brand new fender. The red one had a little rust on it and didnt want to put a rusty fender on a nice truck, and didnt want to spend 700 for a fender on a driver, so we'll see how long it lasts. Frame horn is slightly bent, will straighten that tomorrow. Plan to install core support and as much as I can before some plans tomorrow evening.

Let me know what you think about the LMC quality. Ive been thinking about picking up a door and a fender from them to get me by until I can afford OE sheetmetal.

The fender and door on my 89 are all fubar because my former uncle is an idiot, drug dealing, former drug addict, POS. sorry for the HiJack

I'm sure theres an engine laying around somewhere on your property, or in a car, you want in there too.

Might as well since everything is nice and easy to get to lol.

I'm pretty sure the LMC fenders, Goodmark fenders, etc etc all originate from the same dies in China. They come here, get one of many possible 'brand' labels and then get sold to us.

The set of Chinese fenders I got many years ago actually fit decently, however the captured/spot-welded nuts pulled through in many locations. If I was going to install another set I'd spend a few minutes with a welder and a 5/16 x 18 TPI tap...tack all the captured nuts, and then chase all the threads.

honestly when this motor or trans craps out Im really gonna think about a 5.3 or 6.0 swap if i can afford it at the time. Its just at 106k miles and Im driivng my cars alot easier than i did in highschool. My poor old 77's 350.... or the little 305 in my camaro, when a 305 hits 6k time after time again and holds together I am suprised, and although its burning oil it will still crank right up.

If i did swap a new motor in I would probably make it a stockish 4x4, maybe a semifloating 6 lug 14 bolt in the back.

I think ive decided on the 85-88 style grille as well, looks better to me. Eventually I want to put some dumbo mirrors on, those sports are useless and always have been. For now I just want it back on the road!

That light, little truck with a 5.3 would be awesome, a 6.0 would be epic fun if you got it hopped up a little bit.

Even keeping it a 2wd I think it would be pretty sweet. Even if it only ment just raise the front a little with some 31x10.50 at's. I really dont need to make it 4x4 but when I lift the k5 with bigger tires I was thinking about throwing those 32x11.50s on it just because they were new, but If i do anything like that I need to change the rear end from that horrible 3.08.

If i do a 5.3 or 6.0 Ive always wanted to build something with a turbo, but since im in school and pulling 7.25/hr I think just keeping it on the road as is is the most important part.

I still say keep it a 2wd. You already have one 4x4.

Exactly. Kinda wish I had a decent 2wd cruiser. Nice thing to have really.

Throw some decent stockish sized AT's on it, a LS or locker in the rear, and it's your DD that isn't going to get stuck on wet grass.

Drove it for the first time in four weeks, may not seem like alot of work, but with as little free time and nice weather that ive gotten lately, I think im doing alright!

Been pushed in since before I bought the truck. Got hit hard enough to break the glass. I spent time cleaning glass shards from behind the seat. Been meaning to pop that door panel off and straighten it a little but always more to do than there is time.

Never noticed that before. I've heard a deflated basketball stuffed inside the door, then slowly inflated does a decent job of popping a dent like that out...but you may be able to get to the area more conventionally with the door panel off.
