KansasTwisters 86 k5: (8/13/2011 axles ready to go in, Diff covers painted)

Go with the 3/4 ton stuff for peice of mind. With the 14 bolt being open you can throw a detroit in there and you'll have a lower ratio. I'd also stick with the 700r4/208. Good low range on the TC and lower first gear on the trans, and you've got the O.D

I have a 700R4 with a 205, I had to change the output shaft on the trans(advance adapters) for it to work. If you change to 3/4 you will have to go to 16'' or bigger wheels.

I thought you could put the 205 on a 700 with a spacer in between.

From the pics, it looks like there is a fine collection of vehicles in the family:D

Thats only a portion of the yard :haha: Between my dad, brother, and myself we have around 160 some cars i figure, dad owns the vast majority. Only a small portion are nice, majority of them run and drive, and then some that could be made running, and of course some that are just parts at best.

And i think im just gonna go for the ten bolts on this rig, seeing as im not going to lift it or rig it just yet, and i have new 15" 32's. I may get the 3/4s just to have, and may end up building an offroad toy this spring. Guy on the th350/205 hasnt responded back anyways.

Well i decided to just stay with the 700r4 and 208, picked up a 650 gjet replacement carb, it has a manual choke not electric but i may swap it over.

I just bought a set of 15x8 rallies, they need a sand blasting and a painting but all straight for 30 and buddy has a bead blaster.

Going to look at the 3.73s tonight, hopefully guy still has them. Ya, they are only 10 bolts, but they will be fine for what i got for now.

well power went out tuesday and i didnt get the guys number down, and called him friday and he had sold them, so no 3.73 10 bolts for now.

id just get the 3/4 ton axles then.4.10 gears would be good all around with the 700r tranny.just would have to sell the tires and wheels and get some 16 inch rims and new tires.at least with the 3/4 ton you wouldnt havwe to worry about breakage for awhile.i like that suburban next to the blazer.also,i used to have that impala in front of it as well.looks like a 67 from the back quarter panel.i think i still got parts lying around for it.hhaa

Well after i didnt get the 10 bolts, im really starting to think about lifting it and putting 52's up front and just about a 4-6 inch lift and 35s.

Ill wait before i build something big as that though, my cousin deploys in may and i need to have the motor done in my camaro before he deploys so we can go play at the strip one last time, hes going to Africa and only for a year, but still gonna miss him.

Bought some nice 15x8 6 lug rallies today, nicer than the set i have above and have trim rings and centers, 85 bucks. Dad bought them for me, so that was nice. I spent 25 bucks today in the areas biggest swapmeet, just didnt see anything i truly needed.

The 700r4 and 208 combo really isn't bad at all. I wheeled the hell out of my blazer with that same combo and never suffered breakage. And I was running 42's. And the 208 is lighter and lower geared than the 205, just not quite as strong.

Ya i decided they will stay in there till i go 5.3 or 6.0 backed with a 4l60e or 4l80e if i keep it my driver. Most of the time i think up this huge planned builds but i just need to keep it simple and get it running first, but just got another 5 inches of snow  and another storm expected on sunday :mad:

But i may go look at and possibly purchase a 78 3/4 4x4 with a th400 np203, i dont know what ill do with it but the price is right.

Well if you have a 205 laying around you can use that 400/203 with it to make a doubler.

Id really like to do the rust repair on my 77 (first truck) it already has a new front clip, its only a half ton 2wd, but would bolt right' right on the 78 4x4 frame... hmm :D:hack::weld::grind:= :truck:

If i get it i dont know if ill make it my daily driver or what. Its got rust but its complete.

so, spring break will be the 15th-19th. And the weathers getting warmer by the day :D

If it plans to be nice, im thinking i may try to drop the motor in. Im considering picking up a k1103 summit cam and putting a new timing chain in it and possibly painting it before i drop it in. Im still hoping to find a set of 4.10 6 lug axles for it, im thinking a semi floater 14 and dana 44 or 10 bolt (44 preferred for the 30 spline axles, just marginally better) But if i can get it running and driving that trumps the axle swap till i find the right pair. I was getting pretty bad cabin fever, but this warm weather is making me happy, really wish i had a huge shop like some of these guys, then again if i had a huge shop id never get any school work done lol.

Just ordered a k1003 cam, and a b+m adjustable TV cable. Still raining today, but hopefully some sun next week!

Some neat old photos of when the tree fell on the truck 5 years ago. been trying to get camaro done by the first, so nothing done on k5. as soon as finals are over and camaro buttoned up i wanna tear into this.

picked up a fuel pump water pump and timing chain, already had the gaskets at home. Need to move dads 66 then i can get at the A frame to get the motors out of the junk truck. getting closer, but have been waiting for a week for dad to touch his 66, but he keeps refusing to do anything to it and its getting old fast. For whatever reason after changing the radiator he never put coolant in it, yet he wont go look it over make sure he finished everything and put coolant in it so i can move it. I dont wanna go against him and move it and really piss him off, but im tired of waiting on him to do it. Times like these make me wish i was out of school, working 8-5 with my own garage. Dont need a house ive got couches and bench seats :D
