Little Input + 12V Cummins Swap

Maybe you got the spindle nut socket for the 1/2 ton

Yeah, I dunno Andy.. It's a KD 3937. I thught I thuroghly investigated this socket..NAPA lists it for a monobeam dana 60....nope.... I bid on a complete set on ebay, we'll see.. The axle wont be going back together for at least a week and a half... After work today I finnished dissassembly; I pulled the diff cover and was pleasently suprised to find what I believe is a spicer trac-loc (i wasnt quite sure when I first saw the truck if it was a m1028). There was a little sign of moisture but not bad, gear mesh looked good, no fragments or damage.. The last couple of days i've used my phone for pics, sorry their not very good at all.. With the attached pic can someone please confirm that inside the carrier on the right side that is the clutch pack of a trac-loc? On to the 14B tomorrow.

I can tell by that list if chebby stuff you have known more than one time....
I got a question for ya though.. If I'm not gunna lift my truck any more and I stay with this 3.5" lift thats prob 2.5 or 3 at this point, what are my options for making this steering more solid.. I still have the push pull and I'm under the impression that really you want to be at at least 4" of lift b4 crossover....?

probably with an xj steering shaft, drop pitman arm, and new stock replacement drag link ends, it would steer pretty well. just avoid a dropped drag link. they wear out quick, and make the steering loooose.

thats a trac-junk for sure. but no worries, unless you really wanted a front locker. they can be rebuilt for cheap... if you have the tools of coarse.

kd 3937 shows for dana 44

x2 for the XJ shaft. I put one on my truck and it seemed to help. Sometimes replacing the drag link ends will help get rid of some of the slop. Don't forget about ORD's steering brace too. I don't have one but guys on this site say that it helped their steering a little. There's always hydro assist, but I don't think I've ever seen a hydro setup with the push pull steering arrangement. I don't know how you would do it.

Yeah, I got the brace, post#36, bolt in.. So xj shaft and pitman arm, what do you think for a drop 2-3"? I'll check it out.

i see that you already have a 3" block on the steering, so you mightnot need anymore correction with up to a 5" lift. just my opinion

probably with an xj steering shaft,
x2 for the XJ shaft
Thanks guys, there are a couple junk XJs down the road, I'll grab one..I have all new TREs ready to go in, all except the long TRE..I have to find someone on ebay that can send one USPS... The truck will go up on blocks on Friday or Saterday for the axle swap.

Merry Christmas guys, I don't have any family down here so I took it easy this morning and messed w the truck a little.. I finally got the wheel spacers machined for the front hubs and I mocked up the spacers and wheels... I have some rub front and back on the 1/4 w/o the zero rate but I don't know if it will help that much when I put them in.... I may go w some new 3.5" superlifts + zero rate in front and shackle flip the rear... Here are some pics w 3" spacers and 3.5" of lift, I really like how it sits for a DD, and the BS IMHO is perfect.. I wish it didnt rub...I refuse to cut... Happy Holidays!

Truck looks awesome bro! Merry Christmas to you! I think you should get some 4" Tuff Country EZ Rides and a shackle flip if you don't want to cut out the fenders. I don't know if adding a zero rate and moving the axle forward 1" or 1.5" would make the tires clear the front part of the fender without cutting it or not. I think you're going to have some rub if you don't do some minor trimming.

I like it so far though. Like I said, the baddest crew cab in the Caribbean.:waytogo:

Thanks man! I said f$!k it and started takin it apart late Sat afternoon, its only nuts and bolts if it dosen't work I'll take it apart again and buy some front springs or something.. My buddy and I actually discussed a few options over couple beers.. See, I'm really not into dumping a ton of cash into this thing.. I could move the axle 1.5" and cut the front part of the quarter and some of that space could be taken up by a new fab'd bumper;(see attached example) I do like the look of that...or I could put some 5" springs or I could put shackles on it... and... it's my dd so if I move the axle fwd than I'll have to fab new sway bar mounts if I want to keep the sway bar cause my springs are so smoked that if I didnt have it I'm pretty sure it'll ride like a wet noodle... I've got a ton of options, I really wanna keep it pretty close to what it is now...and I'm cheep...and I have a hangover:doah:......and it's Monday.....:zombie4:

Awesome. Go ahead and cut the front part of the fender even with the top of the stock bumper and the bottom of the valance. That's what I did when I went to my Blazen Off Road tube bumper. The way it's made, that little bit of metal that I cut off was hanging down below the tube and would have gotten smashed anyway.

I recognize that bumper in your picture. Isn't it from DIY4X? Looks like that truck has a 1" body lift maybe. You could always go with one of those.

I felt bad about cutting my fenders up at first, but after I did it, I was glad. It actually looks better now than it did with the stock body lines.

Somewhere in the past I had a build thread for Big Ugly, my M1008 CUCV. It had 36" HMMWV bias plies on stock 16.5" steelies with no lift and minor fender cutting when I first got it. Most of the rubbing I had could have been fixed by a zero rate moving the tires forward. I then put 11.00R16 (38x11ishR16) Michelin XL's on stock 16" steelies and put just a zero rate under it and cut more. I took the fangs off the front and trimmed the fender back to about the wheel well liner and then bashed the liner back a little bit with a BFH. Tires only made slight contact on the liner at max turn. I was going to use the zero rates to move the axle forward but life got in the way and I never did it. I was pretty sure that would have eliminated all of my rubbing.

Sounds like your springs are a lot of your troubles. I had fairly decent shape stock 1 ton springs so they weren't that flexy and kept my tires out of the fenders where a soft spring probably would have let them go into the fenders.

I'd almost say get some new 2.5-3" Tuff Country HD's and put the zero rates on that while locating that axle forward. Better ride, control, and clearance.

You've already got the wheels off - just undo the u-bolts, let the axle down with a jack and put some new springs on there. You'll like them.

lookin good with those wheels/tires. i like it. the black wheels and the black bumper go well together.

cut those fangs off, just below the inner fender. it looks better anyways. imho.

i would take your current bumper off your hands:D shipping would be murder though:doah:

Oh maaaaaaannnn......I got home and had a message on my machine from my land lord...He lives on the same property.. "Corey..... Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays... This is Bob your neighbor (no SH$! BOB!) you need to move your truck, it cant be there......Please give me a call".......:weapon34:

WTF...... So I spent 3hrs this afternoon preping the "work area" a small, gated, oil soaked, red ant infested, topigraphically diverse, corner of the yard where Bob messes around with his crap....I gingerly lifted it w the strait shooter and backed it in... P.I.T.Ass

I recognize that bumper in your picture. Isn't it from DIY4X?
I think it is, I did a search here and just typed in bumper and looked for a pic to describe what I want to do..
I think thats gunna b the plan...
I'm gunna "cut the fangs" for now....

i would take your current bumper off your hands:D shipping would be murder though
I had 3 of these at one point, I would have given u one... shipping would b the buzz kill......

Tell your neighbor to chill. I'm sure the locals don't give a crap if there's a truck being worked on in the yard. Could be city ordinance or something, but I doubt it. I hope Bob gets stuck and he asks you to pull his butt out. "Sorry, Bob. My truck can't be there."
