Looking for transmission advice, TH350 or SM465

You made that seem mild... but I'm guessing its not once the realization that you don't have a flat takes place.

I went from 90w to a 15w50 motor oil in my 465, made shifts much easier/faster. Still not super fast like other 4 speeds (435) but atleast I don't forget what I was doing going from 2nd to 3rd now.

How long have you been running engine oil in the 465 for? Ive heard its bad for the synchro in 3rd but i really have no clue if thats true or not

I run STP in it. Does it shift like a Super T10? No

Sooo... I've got a SM465 and 205 in my K5 :saweet: and I have 2 SM465's sitting in the back of my garage (one currently mated to a 205).

Don't think I'll be having tranny problems for a longggg time.

Definitely gonna be running a hand throttle too.

Thanks for the push fellas!

Gonna be starting up a build thread soon too so be on the lookout. 1 tons, flip flopped shackle flip with 56's, B52's and 52's etc.
Cool, let me know when its hand throttle time.
Ill look for your thread

i havent had a synchro in forever... 2nd gear... well L - 1 - 2 ... sucks cuz when i take my foot off the pedal shifter pops out of gear... hah..

in 1990 I had a 203/400 combo and it was meh... turbo 400 was rebuilt and a shift kit. was a good runner but when a bud got a f150 with a manual and granny.. i drove it where I had issues and it was way easier to drive so converted to stick..

ill never go auto again!

I did the hydro conversion and love that too. out of a fullsize 1986 Jimmy...

Im lucky and my 465 came with a hydro clutch being a 90'. Only mechanical clutch I've driven is on max02's ratbag. Having been born in the 90's i didn't get to grow up with these things... and not nearly enough of them have been saved up here!

Not sure saved is worthy... in traffic your calf would hurt.. huge ass spring. Bet my 9yr old couldnt press the clutch in...

Try an old Borg & Beck 12" pressure plate ,the 3 fingered style...your left leg starts quivering at every red light, you feel like your on the universal gym in high school doing leg thrusts !..

After I had two of those fail in short order on me,I installed an 11" diaphram type pressure plate...first time I went to put the clutch in ,I think I dented the floor !..I had a hard time adjusting to any vehicle with a hydro clutch after that too..

I've heard really good things about the hydro clutch, when I can find a hydro bellhousing that doesn't cost an arm and a leg then I'll probably switch over just to keep my mechanical linkages from falling apart on the trail,

anyone use a softer spring from like Ace Hardware or something?

My leg was dead ass hell today from all the stop lights and stop signs lol.

I'll take some pics of my stuff and upload it, I think I've got some jimmy rigged spring setup underneath the truck... I think the springs are attached to the clutch fork and attach to a solid point on the frame or somewhere under there...
