Lost and Found - LS3 6L80 NP205 Full Frame Off

I agree, that is why I don't understand the use of the NP205. Nice new EFI engine, fancy automatic transmission, and then a loud, piss poor shifting, NP205? Either way it is still a cool build, the transfer case just seems out of place.

I'd have to agree.

But I mean you do have a fancy adapter and its new and you already have it. Might as well run it :waytogo:

Yeah I completely understand. I didn't want to drop 2-3k in something like an atlas and all the newer tcases didn't fit the bill. The 6l80 has never been mated to a 205 so I'm hoping for a 1 off cool factor for that and trying to pay a little homage to the part. Its historically just a bad ass case.

The gauges will be sent to a company called gauge works and re built like a modern gauge and re screened so the tach can go to 8000rpm. The gauges will be exactly like modern all electric gauges but will look and feel like the originals.

The holley mounts I have for the LS will move the motor for me and doing some measurements it should all work. I had to go with the short input on the 205 to save about 3 inches. That's why I have to use the custom adapter.

So are you changing the speedo?
Mine is still hooked up with a cable to the 205 and the computer gets its reading off the vss.

I will be glad to help with anything I can.
I may even learn something from build also.
You will only be able to leave the crossmember it the motor has enough room to move forward. Mine is pushed back almost 2"and the 4L65is the same length as a 700r4 with the adapter.

Nothing major but while I was at the shop they were cutting the floors so I took some underneath photos after blast and primer.

Be very glad. The back wasn't that bad just a few weak spots. The front floor pans from LMC are HORRIBLE so my guys are having to patch them instead of replacing them. It's not a big deal, they do very good work plus once they're coated in Polyurea top and bottom it won't be a big deal.

Are you still going to PowerTour show tomorrow? If so go to the YearOne truck and ask to see Brad, just tell him about your truck and he will probably take you for a ride in the twin turbo trans am. Nothing like 1200 HP :-)

Yes I'm going in the morning.
Drove by there this evening and saw the YearOne truck. I will go by and ask for Brad tomorrow.

Went by my body guys shop to drop off some sheet metal and he had his truck there. So bad ass.

They are also taking the whole truck to bare metal due to a few spots they found from its last paint job.

Yes! Love those trucks. My first "car" was a '64 C10 I bought at a garage sale for $950. Wish I still had that truck.

I've ditched the idea of a clockable NP205/6L80 combo and i've decided to go back to the factory t-case adapter.

I have had to use a NP205 race track pattern to round pattern converter part from Northwest Fab and once the round pattern is on I can bolt it directly to the factory adapter. The only other thing i'll need to do is swap the short 32 spline input to the longer 32 spline input in my 205 to get full thread engagement.

The good part in using the factory adapter is I will not need to modify my cross member and the factory escalade part uses the same t-case adapter as my K5 :-)

Here are some pics of the adapter. I did have to make a small modification for the shift rail to work correctly but i'll finish cleaning it up tomorrow.

My ghetto cuts to make the test fit work. I did it much cleaner later and i've still got a little to do tomorrow.

Short Input was to short to get full engagement. I need the longer 32 spline input.

The NP205 with my short input removed. Waiting on the new longer input.

Here are my modifications for the shifter rail cleaned up. I still need to grind a little bit more to clean it up.

Oh and here is what keep me motivated. 600HP sitting in the garage just waiting to go in.
