Low Buck Wheeler: Project Stump Jumper

Looks fine to me. Sounds like you need to try to take some time off and go out and wheel this thing a little. After you fix the clutch, that is.

That'd be cool. I haven't actually ever met anyone on this forum so i'd be cool to have a face to put with the screen name. :thumb:

Was your guy having work done at Tony's? They do pretty good work at that shop. The guys at mid-atlantic 4x4 are good guys but mostly deal in Mall crawlers and lifted daily driver ifs rigs but are always more than happy to talk about wheeling and lend a hand when they can.

How's the future Coal Roalin' K5 coming?

Ya, we will definetly have to meet up at some point soon, I've only met 3 other CK5ers so far, but all super cool people.

The truck was at Tonys, it's an 05 Cummins truck, he had a delete done and added a new muffler to it, the shop did a nice job and the price was very fair.
Atlantic was cool, I had heard of them but never been in there and after seeing the 4x4 camaro I had to stop :D.

I have actually been making some progress on the cummins K5, I should be posting up a decent update and some new pics soon. You know what they say "if you've got time, you don't have money, and when you've got money you don't have the time" so I've got some nice piles of parts , just need the time to assemble them all :doah: :D

Thanks for the props guys :thumb:

I've been feeling burnt out on the truck lately and I think it's because of all the loose ends and half done stuff, so i've decided to build a check list and try and wrap up as many loose ends by July 15th and then wheel the piss out of it. :D A lot of the items on the list I have already bought everything for, just haven’t had time to install.

Here's the Completion List:

Dana 60

Rebuild upper and lower Kingpins
Repack Bearings
Install Mad4wd Outer axle seals
Install spicer 35 spline stubs
Install Mile Marker 35 spline locking hubs
Install Lockright
Install ORD Draglink
Replace Pinion Seal

To Buy
SPL554x U joints
Pinion Seal

Suspension

Install engine cage w/ shock mounts
Build Rear Shock brackets
Check Everything/ replace all standard nuts with lock nuts

Engine/ Trans/ T Case

Install and tune Propane Kit
Bleed and Adjust Clutch
Grease T Case Shifters
Check and Fill All Fluids
Oil Change

To Buy
Misc Fittings
Tank Brackets

Interior

Install Mojave heater
Complete Diy4x Dash Install
Install New Wiring harness
Install Gauges
Install S&W Cage

It's a big list but I'm hoping I can get to most of this, so I can get this thing wheeling and finish this phase of the build before the baby comes at the end of July. Would anybody if the Maryland/DC/Virginia Area be interested in doing what Dave did in Michigan but more like a build day. I think a solid Saturday of more people than just me banging away on this would go a long way. I'll buy lots of beer and pizza if anyone is interested :pimp:

I just talked to John (nvrenuf) and we're going to trade my srw hubs for his drw so during all the Dana 60 work i'll be switching to dually hubs so I can ditch the spacers... it's all coming together.... Anybody want in on the build day

If you weren't on the exact opposite side of the country I would be there for sure.
I can't make it this time.

Thanks man, I appreciate the thought :thumb: If you ever make it to the area give me a shout and i'd be happy show you around...

Let me know when you set a date, I would be down for a wrenching party :D, worst case Ill have to tell the wife I have work that day in order to get out of the house  :doah: :D

Hey Stump, I really like what you got going on here man, be wary of that S&W cage...what part # did you get? Check your pieces to be sure they are what they say they are, and realize that if you got the back family extension, it won't cover your head back there????
Good luck with the build day, we had a blast at mine. If anyone can attend I highly encourage helping out:waytogo:

Thanks Man :thumb: I didn't get the family cage, just the 10 point kit and the 14 point conversion. What size tube did you use to make new bars that go through the dash? Realistically the cage is lower on the list than everything else but still a priority...

I'm really hoping the build day is a sucess, one day with a bunch of hands working would really give this build the added boost it needs... My biggest struggle is finding time to consistently work on the truck. i'm 22 with a one year old and number two on the way, and we're settleing on a house at the end of this month, all while trying to keep my wife from having to work, so my time is in high demand. Pretty much this whole project has been funded by running scrap whenever and where every I can, so it doesn't impact our monthly budget and so far that has worked out ok. All in all i'm feeling better about the build and i'm trying to get everything i've collected over the last year installed and working properly so I can take this thing out and flog it without worrying about major breakage every trip...

In other news, she's running on propane!! I got the set up installed partially last Saturday and have been tinkering on it when I get home from work (11pm and later) and finally have her running strong, I just need to figure out how to tune the propane carb and then it's time for a spin around the block. Any suggestions from those powered by pane :D

I got 1.75 DOM for the A pillars,
many of the additions are 1.50 DOM.
I think your doing great for making your budget out of scrap!

Life/ Truck Update

Well I bought my house and at the end of may and spent all of June and most of July remodeling the Kitchen, Living room and Dining room. I knocked out the galley kitchen and a big closet and then rebuit everything. Here's a before and after for those who like this kind of stuff. I still need to rap up some of the crown molding and and trim as well as putting hardware on the cabinets but you get the idea.

This is a picture of the galley kitchen when we bought the place

And with the galley gone and new lighting, floors, sheetrock, cabinets, appliances and a bunch of other stuff.

I got it to where is is now just a week or so before my son was born.I spent the rest of July and August spending time with my family and helping my wife take care of the new baby and my daughter. and only working my normal 40. Here's a good pick of my Kids from a few weeks ago:

Since august i've made a little progress on truck stuff, I'm back to working 70+ hour weeks and lately my time as been spent on trying to get my dodge back on the road. But I did get my rim stiffeners welded in and my 90% tread 39.5 TSLs installed ( I scoped them up for $650 off craigslist) :thumb: and that's where i'm currently at on this build. I need to get the steering working better, it's very difficult to drive currently but I have a new column, xj shaft and PSC cylinder for hydro assist to install so the problem should be taken care of in short order. Here's a few pics of the rims and the truck with the new tires and rims.

Wow!! Kitchen is freakin awesome!!!! Nice work there. 1000 times better now!!! Kids are cute!! Rig is lookin sweet too, Love the wheel/tire combo. Great score on the tires!!!

Keep up the good work!!

Wow the kitchen, kids & rig all look great. I'm glad to hear things are going well for you.:waytogo:

Well guys i've had a moment of clarity on the truck, i'm at a point where a single cab play toy doesn't make sense with having two kids and before I invest anymore time and money in a truck that needs rewired, a trans rebuild, major steering help and will still only seat two comfortably, I need a fresh start.

I'm on the hunt currently for a K5 to put axles and suspension into. The rest of the truck will go up for sale the body is rust free but a little rough the bed has been bobed. The frame will also be for sale it's a shortened k20 longbed frame set up for 52" springs and 64" springs and as you can see from the pics in this thread the suspension worked well.

Anyway if anyone has a line on a great running K5 that is not to rusty in the MD area let me know. Thanks.
