LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
I painted my port today, and got the wiring in the box.
Then sanded the holes and test fit a sub.
I'm having a hard time finding mounting bolts for the subs though.
There's a very limited array of sizes that can be used.
Like the head has to be bigger than 1/4", but smaller than or equal to 5/16". And it has to be 2½" long.
I'm thinking socket head cap screws. But I'll probably have to order them because no one in town has more than like 3 in stock. :doah: I need 16.

Do you have a Fastenall? They usually have good stock of hardware.

Fastenal went to Corporate account only years ago. You just cannot walk into a Fastenal and buy anything any more like you use too.

Sadly true.

But - for what it's worth - my local Fastenal branch offered to set me up with an account so I could continue my personal purchases. The only reason I didn't is that my branch is very small and rarely keeps anything useful in stock. :doah: I have used them for 3PL a few times, but it's almost useless as a source of actual fasteners.

We have a much better selection available through our local industrial hardware store. Do check around town, you might be surprised at what's readily available.

Yeah we have Fastenal and it's BS. I'm going to try Menards today just to see. Maybe I can scrounge up my 16 needed by piecing then together between stores if nothing else. If that doesn't look like it'll work, I know a place I may be able to find what I need when I get to work tomorrow

I'm also trying to figure out how I want to cover/coat it. I WAS going to cover it in material, but it will be secured to the floor with an angle iron cage that will have a built in mesh grille. So it won't actually be very visible. Might just smooth out the top and paint it :dunno:

Couple update things.
I realized I have an issue with the original alternator.
If the headlights are on, and I idle, my volts dip down into the 11s, and can even make it run roughish. The Holley doesn't like the 11s lol.
Runs at near 15 on the highway. So I think my regulator has issues.

And I'm getting ready to bolt the subs in the box.
Given the size of the hardware you can estimate the bass I'm fully expecting :waytogo:

Eh, w7's are cool. I like trying odd chit though. The infinity highs/mids are popular yeah, but around me you never see anyone with em. Subs I went with these for now, with the availability to add more of em if I'm happy.
Mine are dual 4ohm though.

I'll have 5000 actual watts to run em.

These subs weigh 70 lbs each, so I'm using the 6mm bolts and t nuts to keep them in the box lol.
I've had subs in the past pull out wood screws.

That's going to be awesome. I like the infinity kappa's for mids and highs but I've also had good luck with Polk's as well. I wasn't really impressed with the Alpine Type R components I ran in one vehicle.

It'll end up with 4 infinity ref-flex 8"also. One in each door doing mid bass.

I've had some polks, and loved them. They were the old momo series.

I currently have an alpine swr-t10 behind the seat of my dually. Had 2 of them, and I gotta say they impressed me.

The one I still have is nice by it's self.

I lost one sitting in the shop, drunk as all get out, trying to see how far I could push em...... I found it :doah:

The type r subs are quality units and can take a major beating. I just wasn't impressed with the door speakers.

I thought that about all the JL stuff myself. Subs rock. But all the other stuff in the walls at the stores didn't impress me.

The start of my box hold down bracket, and grille.

Yeah, heavy duty.
Because,
#1. Nobody's stealing my sh1t!
#2. Nobody's stealing my sh1t!
And #3. I don't want a 300 lb wrecking ball flying around in the event of a wreck lol.

Not a great pic, because I was pretty much smashed when I took it lol. But this is the bracket on the box, and a shot of the mesh bracing I'm still tack welding.

Trucks in the shop now so I can do some more alternator work, mount the rear battery, and get the amp rack built and mounted.

I got my bracket painted... Then remembered that I have a few more tabs to weld on :doah: , oh well. It'll be easy to repaint them spots.

And I also finished out what I could do of the sound deadener. I got the rear floor done and filled all the gaps in the roof.

I still have to make cover plates for some access holes in the rear doors, then I'll cover them completely. And I have to do under the main floor (seat area) but I'm waiting for new carpet before I tear that up.

Once I get the carpet in and headliner re-covered, I'll start the painful process of putting the interior trim pieces back in.

Some will have to be customized due to the changes I made.
