LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
used those same head gaskets on my ls2 stroker build, hard to beat for the price and being made in usa. progress looks good. i had the machine shop assemble my bottom end he had the same issue with an oil ring. so i wouldn't feel bad.

New ring compressor will be here Wednesday. So hopefully Thursday I'll make some actual progress.

Ordered a single cylinder set of rings to replace my jacked up ones... And I kinda messed up doing it.
It cost me $49 for that... And an entire set is $130. :doah:
Now if I screw up even a single one, I'll be at the price of a whole set to replace it.
I should have thought ahead better.

Did they chamfer the top of the bore?
those band ring compressors suck compared to the tapered ones...good luck!

It feels like there's a small chamfer. Maybe not as big as the ridge on my new ring compressor wants. But there's one there at least.

I haven't put the compressor on the block to check that yet. Been working.
Then the last 2 days off have been granddaughter days lol. Motor can wait.

After plugging in all the numbers I should be at 9.76 - 9.78 for a compression ratio.

Got my replacement ring set. Now I just need to attempt to put it together again.

Pistons are in! :woot:
About damn time.
That tapered compressor was the shiznit.

Then my cheap azz angle gauge deal stopped working :doah:.
So it's off to get a better more trustworthy one tomorrow.
Then maybe I can get the rest of this together.

Got the engine together. I have to clean and install the oil pan yet.

I'm not removing anything from the harness, so all I have to modify is at the fuse box.
I'm going to use the one it came with.

Theres quite a bit that I can't find out about the wiring integration.
I want to keep,Tow haul mode and Cruise control. So I need to do more research about how to do that.

Since I'm keeping the stock trans and such my speedo should still work. But I know I'll have to tie that signal into the new ecm somehow too.
Anyone know where to look up schematics for gmt400s?

No pan lol. That's dripping off the rotating assembly from dipping the pistons before they went in.

3 steps forward, 2 steps back :doah:

While cleaning the pan I noticed this cracked area. It doesn't seem to be leaking at the dent I didn't notice, but I'm going to try and have it fixed for piece of mind.

We have a guy at work that tigs all day. I'm going to see if he can weld it inside and out for me.

Have a feeling that's gonna turn into a headache. If you can foot the bill you may consider replacement.

If he can weld it I'll leave it. He should be able to tell me in the morning what he thinks. If not :dunno: I guess it's just one more expense to throw in the bag. Kind of running down to scraps as far as cash for this goes. So it's hard to stomach the idea of buying a new one. My $3000 swap budget is past $5000 already and it ain't even in yet.

Had a guy at work weld the pan.
He blew a nickel sized hole in it within seconds lol. Told him that when I brought it in it was already trash so wasn't a big deal. He proceeded to spend the next 6-8 hrs on it since it was a slow night.

It came out nice on the outside... And I told him I didn't care about the inside.

But... After sitting with a creeping penetrant fluid in it for a while........

So, it's junk. But I had already ordered a new one about 10 minutes after he blew the hole in it.
He kept working on it as something to do and a challenge lol.

All of these were leaks.

Oil may never have made it through even. But why risk it.

I'm trying to order the last round of stuff I'll need to get this in.
Getting hung up on coils.
Fast, MSD, PerTronix, or Summit brand.
The fast claims to be high volt and all that, the msd is the street fire so it's basically stock replacement. They are both $330-350.
My dad used some PerTronix a long time ago, but I know nothing of them beyond that. And the summits had at least one review of some dead ones out of the box. But they are $240 so....

Delcos are $800. So those are out lol

I'm going to fix the dually quick. And then the burb goes in the shop and this'll get started.

What's wrong with the ones that were on it? Replace the harnesses on them if you are worried and roll out. I have my limiter set at 6700 and have no ignition troubles with stock ones.

There's 2 broken.
And I don't like the idea of 2 new, 6 old.
