LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
Thought about just grabbing 2 or 3 at the junk yard. But not sure yet.
Now you are thinking. I wouldn't hesitate to get some used ones. Keep one thing in mind, there are two designs. One from Hitachi, one Delco. The coil mount brackets are different between the two, so stick with the style you have when you go looking at the boneyard.

When I was researching those for my LQ9 swap the general consensus on LS1Tech and PerformanceTrucks was that the after market coils weren't worth the cost and don't perform as good as the stockers. The truck D585 coils are supposed to be what all the car guys upgrade to and RockAuto has the Delphi (#GN10119) equivalent for $34/ea and Amazon has a set of the AC Delco (#BSC1251) equivalents for $265 if that helps at all.

I seen those on amazon, but I'm worried about them being Chinese fakes. I've looked up the delco ones on a bunch of regular parts sites and they are regularly $80-110 a piece. Then they have em 8 for $265....? Seems too good to be true.

I'm going to try and get to the junk yard and see what I can find. It'll be a while before I'm trying to start it. And I need some other JY pocket items and small things too. Like the oil filler neck and a normal oil dip stick, etc.

From what I was reading there's two Delco versions (both listed on RockAuto) and one is the official OE replacement that run $90 a pop while the other is considered the aftermarket replacement that runs around $35/ea. A few people on different forums were trying to figure out or debate the difference but all I ever saw is one has a clear epoxy sealing up one side and the other uses black but no confirmed difference as far as performance or quality/longevity :dunno: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iv-external-engine/1890414-d585-coil-debate.html

FWIW I wound up buying some low mileage take-offs from a dismantler on flea bay for $75 shipped (complete set with their mounting brackets) if you don't mind used and don't have any luck at the JY near you.

I'll see what the JY has. Looks like next week will be decent out. Im sure there will be PLENTY of LS stuff in there lol. May just see what a full set costs so I have spares. Just in case.

New issue is the oil pan again.
The one I ordered was cancelled on me due to lack of availability.
Then I read on the gmt400 forum site that the pan I have is not a good choice for lowered stuff. My burb will be getting a 3/4 drop at some point.
So I'm looking into exactly what I want to buy.
Still may go with stock style, since they're probably talking about bags and frame scraping. But I'm sort of shopping around to see what else is out there and may be better but still cost effective.
Pans for these can go as high as $1000. :yikes:
This pan will hang about 1.5"-2" under the cross member supposedly.

Given how easily this one cracked with a tiny little nearly imperceptible dent, I'd almost rather go with one of the aftermarket steel ones.

Summits forking me around a little. So no pan yet.

Kinda have a question about sensors.
I do need a mass air sensor right?
That's about the only thing that didn't come with the engine.

You can run without one, but for best drivablity, it's best to keep it. Only time I'd recommend not running one would be with forced induction.

I want the best economy and drivability I can.
So I guess I should pick one up.

Can you not do a speed density tune?

When I was tuning mine, had the MAF failed and was running in speed density. Temperature changed about 40* and truck started running like garbage. Had no power and would barely stay running. Changed plugs, swapped out coils, checked fuel pressure, couldn't figure it out. Next day the temp was more inline with what I had when I was tuning and truck ran great. Dawned on me that running in speed density (with the MAF failed and other things in the tune set that way) that the ECM couldn't compensate for the change in temperature that well.

Yeah, you can get a speed density tune to run well, but it's not the correct way. For 99% of the builds out there, there is no reason to run without the MAF.

Finally got the oil pan. Now to get the engine fully together and get the other trucks fixed so I can do this.

Also bought a new sending unit for the tank, and a lingenfelter fuel pump that'll support 550hp just incase.

Pan requires a remote mount filter, which I planned on doing anyway, so I picked up a remote filter base and a -10an hose/fitting kit to get started with.

All the oil gear together. Plus fuel pump.
Only thing I'll need oil wise is whatever fittings I'll need to adapt to the stock oil cooler, and possibly another 5' chunk of hose.

I want to tear into this thing in the worst frickin way. Seems like so much other stuff is trying to block me.

Dually currently has the trans on the floor for ring gear and clutch change.
Frame cracked at the steering box on the 4x toy and it's frickin play season :doah:
My kids burb is still acting weird and running funny. Need to figure it out so he can use it to work.
His GFs car is now having fuel pump issues, and she also needs it for work.
(Both of their vehicles transport my granddaughter. So take priority to me lol)
And at some point here I need to rent a skid loader and do a LOT of yard restructuring at the shop.

I'll squeeze this in the shop at some point in the middle here and tear a bunch of chit apart so that I have leverage to get some time on it lol.

I know you're not asking for the voice of reason here. But...have you considered wrapping up those projects before you take a good truck off the road?

Nothing more frustrating than needing to pause a half finished project because a higher priority appeared.

At the moment I won't even drive this one. I changed that pmd and in ran great for a month/month and a half. Now it's back to random reduced power mode.
Don't trust it anymore. And since I have this engine almost ready, I'm not putting any time or money into figuring it out.

What the list was about was basically what's first lol. I have 2 bays, so at some point I'll year into this. But the dually and blue truck will be done first.
Every now and again I'll have. Day that I'd rather tear stuff apart than put stuff together though.
Technically the dually should be done before Saturday.
My kids GFs car should be out of the shop today.

His burb I really haven't put much thought into because he doesn't seem to put much thought into getting a job. So why worry about it.
If he did get a job I'd be all over it. But he hasn't shaved in 6 months, has been to maybe 3 interviews in that time span, and still smokes weed like a champ.
I'm just matching the amount of time/effort he's putting in lol.

There's jobs in this town that have a constant opening. If your looking, they'll hire. I know multiple people that have been hired in that time span.
One even failed the piss test to get in, and was called back by the same company anyway 2 weeks later to try again.
His truck will sit lol. But I still have to do it someday, around this truck.

Hahaha!

:haha: :rotfl:

There's no rule that says you NEED to fix his truck...
I'm only doing so because I bought it for him out of my dad's life insurance money, and I wouldn't let him pick many other things because frankly the LS crap usually doesn't have any issues :dunno: .
I haven't really had any with my many, and none of my friends or our trucks at work have either.
And his has been shit since a week after we bought it :doah:.
I feel obligated.
I only help those who are willing to help themselves!
That is actually pretty much my motto man. Lol. I say it a lot, and my kid has heard it said to him ALOT.

On a separate note, I did start driving this again. Since the frame cracked on the 4x and the dually was down.
It's been doing ok. No issues :dunno: .
Dually is done now, and the blue truck is in the shop ready to be torn into.
Soon as it's done I'm going to just tear into this one, and work on his around it or at stand stills with this for parts or whatever.
