LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
Even with the new bolts, I can't run the cover.
I'm going to modify, so that I can.

Starter shield,...
and it's finally getting back together.

I figure I'm going to, just because it's there :dunno:

The little tabs on either side will be simple to break off, then flapper wheel the edge smooth.
Then I'll just make a back plate that will cover the gap. Which will be at the same distance from the bolts as the oil pan lip is, maybe washer space it out an 1/8" farther.

Looks, keep grime out, protect flywheel... ? Whatever the reason. Few minutes of work is all it'll take.
MAW.

Plugs/ wires in.
Core support is in place, with all bolts in. I just have to check fit and tighten everything.

Tomorrow is transmission lines and cooler.
Then fill fluids and bleed rear brakes.

I'm kind of disappointed in my cooler.
I seen this one, looking for a 'stacked plate' style.
Didn't read the description.

Then right below it was this one. Same brand/style, just bigger. So I threw it in the cart and ordered.

But that's a plate and fin. I wanted a real stacked plate like this one. Only bigger. Can't find one though :dunno:

I don't like the little fins that get bent and clogged.
The real stacked plate one can be pressure washed if need be.

Oh well. I have it now so it's going to work.

Being a completely new system, how much fluid should I start with?

I've read 6-8 quarts, then start it and fill from there.

Is that about right? Or start lower?

Only thing in it now is a half a quart or so in the converter

I think I got 4-6qts in the pan on mine before it started backing up the dipstick tube. But ya that’s essentially it. Fill it, start it, add more.

I thought 8 quarts sounded excessive. But I read it in a few different forums.
I trust this one more lol

I have a 5 gallon bucket of dex 3 from when I had my old skid loader 2 years ago.
So i have enough, but I need to get a smaller transfer container.

I'm going to look around tonight. But I was kind of interested in running a synthetic fluid. Maybe I'll do that.:dunno:

The little bit of dex 3 in the converter shouldn't hurt anything.

Looking into it, it looks like dex VI is thinner and will raise the stall speed some.

I want to get used to what its like now so I'll run the dex III I have.

So...... Uh. Couple things.

It must be changing stuff with the learn, or something ... Not sure.

Ran rough as F*** for a minute or so. Then smoothed out to that video.

Shut it off, checked everything, no leaks, added trans fluid, etc.
Start it again with mufflers on it.
Couldn't hardly keep it going, but after holding the throttle open a tiny bit for a while, it idled again.

Got out, checked trans fluid, looked for leaks, etc.
Got back in to shut it off and seen the temp was at 230 and I shut it off for the night there.

I'm hoping it's just due to needing driven a bit and get all the bubbles out. :dunno:

Is the exhaust restrictive?

At that point it comes out of the headers, through about 3' of 3" each side, H pipe, and a pair of Flowmaster super 50's

Second run and second video was no mufflers.

THIRD was the one I seen the heat that high.

This was first second run,
It has a 160* thermostat in it.
I noticed that but figured it just needed to get water circulating.

Sorry about the door buzzer.

Tomorrow it gets the grille and such to be drivable.

I'll get it out of the shop and get it moving in my little test loop I do right near the shop.
It has Steep hills and off angles to get the bubbles out.

Trans cooler mounted. Oil cooler is about the same, just other side.
It'll go in at oil change.

With the cam and head changes you will probably need to open the throttle up some and idle and recalibrate the IAC and TPS.

You probably have air trapped and it's not letting the thermostat open, or a dud thermostat.

And.....
When it kept trying to die on third run, ... I tried to tap the gas to catch it before dieing , and FOCK it has throttle response now:yikes:

Perfect :thumb:

I was going to drive it around a bit, try to get water moving, and after it's done with that problem, I'll calibrate the iac again.
TPS I did already.
