LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
So, I got this out for a quick drive across town a couple days ago.
Feeling better some :waytogo:
And..... Well.... I got on it once pretty hard, and when it shifted into second, it kind of felt like it didn't shift.
Pretty sure it was a full on slip :doah:

After that, it didn't do it again. But.... Pretty sure.

I'm switching back to dex 3 tomorrow.
And I'm going to drive it, drop it, drive it, drop it, etc, like 4 times or so to make sure I get as much as possible changed back.

It's a hail Mary fingers crossed action.
But I'm gonna do SOMETHING.
It takes 5qts per drop. I got a 5 gallon bucket at O'Reilly's for $100. Worth it if it saves the trans.

This was the fluid after changing it enough times to go through 7.5 gallons. And driving it about 15 block.
There are sparkles yet. Fluid is way less dark.

It is acting much better.


And....... Maybe I'm dumb. I'm starting to wonder if the stuttering I'm getting is fuggin wheel hop, and it's spinning some.
Today it was doing it but I heard wheel spin squeaks... So I'm getting the GoPro out to watch the axle and also get a shot straight down center of the wheel.

You should be able to log both the input and output speeds of the transmission.
 
All I can find is input.
Heath said he did see slip or something somehow. I I couldn't see it.
The only time it felt like slip was once, after going into second for about a second.
Otherwise what it feels like it a full on stutter.
When it shifts it shifts fast and solid. It's on take off it'll do like what people call converter shudder two or 3 times.
Stu,stu,stu, GO. They are hard shap feelings.
No mushy takeoff, drawn out shifts, rev before it catches, nothing like that.
And it does it sometimes if I let it get into second, then mash it.

The one time, I got in it hard, was kinda pissed thinking my trans was shit, so I stayed in it, let it shift into second, and it didn't really seem to be spinning, wasn't stuttering, but wasn't accelerating either. But it wasn't revving to the moon like you'd think.
That was the only time that FELT kinda like slipping.
 
Hard to tell what's going on. But it does the stutter at 1:32.

I do need a traction bar of some kind though.
You can see the diff bounce at 1:32. But I can't tell if it's from the trans letting go or the tires.

 
If you pause at 1:25 and put it to .25% speed you can clearly see the diff bouncing up and down.

Now to just figure out how to stop that lol

I do see that I have to retorque the pinion carrier bolts lol.

I've been debating building the equivalent of a wraptor type anti wrap bar for a while. Never needed it with the other engine.
I was always waiting for later because I planned to 4 link it. Which would make it unnecessary.

May have to build the anti wrap because I have no idea if I'll ever get to a 4 link
 
Looks like caltracs makes a set for this.
No point in reinventing the wheel.
I'm going to see if I can pull something out of my hat and get a set.

Did you get a datalog of it?

You have engine RPM, intput speed, and output speed, so you can see what is slipping.

With a dominator you can do channel math and create converter slip and clutch slip channels.

The Terminator X can't do that I don't believe, but you can still see the data. I just change the scales until the data overlaps, then you can see where it doesn't match.

Some converter slip is normal when not locked, especially down low, and some momentary clutch slip on initial gear change is normal.

Other than that, there shouldn't be any clutch slip.

The caltracs will definitely reduce wheel hop and improve traction, but not burnouts. :D

I never seen an output speed. I'll look again but I read every line looking for it.

output speed is just called "speed"

That is MPH, in order to get output speed RPM you need to back calculate the math.

Or just change the axis parameters until the two lines overlap visually.

I did that. And it's in the trans, but you can clearly see the stutter visualized. (Purple) Not a usual slip.

Also, I got my tune and datalog in a single Zipped folder. I'm still waiting on a mod at Holley to activate my account (n).
They aren't winning points on that end.

No idea on that sound, it's either coming from the trans or it's something under the truck rattling from the stutter action.:dunno:
 
Could be, but it doesn't look like it's bent far enough for a bind does it?
I can look for clean spots to see if its making contact anywhere I guess :thinking:
 
What my original plan was is to build a cross member back near the current front leaf mounts, 4 link it to there, with a carrier bearing, and 2 piece the drive shaft.
Probably stay with everything it has now + caltracs.

The caltracs will solve a second problem too, in the fact that my under axle u bolt plays are thin and deformed under the U bolt torque.
The cal trac setup replaces that.
 
It could be anything, could be a shock bushing, suspension bushing, trans mount, motor mount, bad u-joint, axle wrap. It does appear the axle pinion shakes when it happens, which could be wheel hop, it might even be induced by the bumps combined with the power application. I don't think the axle wrap is enough to bind the joint, I've seen much worse, but it's possible.

Cal-tracs are excellent for leaf springs, they move the IC down and forward and control spring wrap without giving the violent short IC of traditional snubber style traction bars.

Check all your suspension bushings, including the shock bushings. The Caltracs usually replace your front leaf spring bushings with more solid ones.
