LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
I thought it was weird that it said prime it with it.

But figured maybe it was dyno run at GMPP or something.

I got the transgo HD-2 sitting here, and I have questions....
I thought, "hey, I'll clean up and use the throttle body from the bad transmission since it's probably already drilled.". Which it is, in all the right places.

Then I hear that the 2005 valve body will NOT work in a 95 transmission.

Circuitry is different, and so on. Supposedly.
But the separator plate is the same. Regardless of year. So all the circuitry has to line up between the case and valve body.
It also claims the solenoids and wrong are different. But mine both have the same harness.

Sooo.... Why couldn't I?:dunno:

I did find 2 differences. And I can only assume they are improvements.

I went over every passage back and forth with a pen light, and those were the only 2 I found.IMG_20250906_174710331~3.jpgIMG_20250906_174716008~3.jpgIMG_20250906_174840501_HDR~3.jpgIMG_20250906_174845341~3.jpg

The only other thing I found, even going over the whole harness, is this plug is different on the end of this solenoid. All the others plug right in.
Top one is the 05

This doesn't make me feel better at all. The 95 is way dirtier than the 05 that just burned up and roasted some clutches. :doah: IMG_20250906_174304237_HDR.jpg

Couple curious things I found....

The instructions act like there should be 2 springs here. My stock 95 had just the inner, like for firmer shifts.IMG_20250906_184416417~2.jpgIMG_20250906_184433088_HDR~2.jpg

And the spring they sent for the 3rd accumulator seems oddIMG_20250906_193059785_HDR~2.jpgIMG_20250906_193120585~2.jpg

Plus, it looks like the 2nd shift check ball was about to wear its way through the plate on the 05.
The one to the left and above is also a check ball hole for reference lol Screenshot_20250906-211952.png

As is , I DID modify the 95 one by the way.
Still don't see why they won't swap, but :dunno:
Wasn't going to put it together and find out the hard way lol.

Now...
As for shift firmness.
It has 2 places to firm them up.
One was the blue spring in step 2.
I chose the firmer one there.

And next is the holes to drill in the plate.
So,... I was unhappy with how hard 1-2 was in the other trans. And in looking at that valve body, it seems they did this exact kit, or one identical to it.

They went with the bigger .096 (maybe slightly bigger yet) hole option, for 2nd and 3rd.
Then the lightest for 4th.
My 1-2 was HARSH, but 2-3 felt basically stock. :dunno:
I'm going to go with .086 for all of them.
Which it recommends for HD trucks.

Given all the black build up, I'm guessing it's not gonna last super long either way lol.

So when you said you chose the firmer one, it's firmer shift not the firmer spring, right?
Because the softer spring gives you the firmer shift

Forgot to mention, it looks like maybe I do have to adjust my new dipstick.
Seems a little low. Maybe 1/4"

Both cooler lines are in the front, the valve body does have the 2 small holes they say were in the early design... I seen them late last night.
(Bottom left)IMG_20250906_174840501_HDR~3.jpgIMG_20250906_174845341~3.jpg

But it's the wiring harness that plugs in with a big circle instead of the bolt in, And the long shift shaft that supposedly didn't start till 96.
I believe these are build years also.

So I'm guessing mid year change over BS.

Got to where I replace this spring for the 1-2 and see there's a gasket. But they don't supply a new one.....?
Do I need to go find one? Or will the old one be ok?

I just ordered another gasket, fuggit.

Why wonder when they're cheap and Amazon does free overnight chit now.
