M1009 Standard Shift Build(The Greatest Adventure)

Open the cover, look for...... anything bad.

Check the ring gear stamping for gear ratio.

MAKE SURE THE LOCKER IS IN THERE!!!!

Now that I have my truck unpacked, this is what happens when you sink in a silty river.

Rich I knew you should have left some of that rust you repaired so the water and silt could have drained out through the holes in the floorboard. :haha:

I hate junk yards here. I finally found a ramcharger for parts listed at one on craigslist. I call up and get in like a 3 minute abbott and costello with this guy who ban barely speak english and is insisting I am trying to say land cruiser (insert racist comment of choice) . We finally narrow it down to big brown ugly dodge truck they have. Well, I'm asking this guy if they have the rear driveshaft and t-case for it and he says, "I cannot find them in the computer". I asked him to look under the truck, but this didn't make any difference to him. Obviously, all of their parts are stored in the computer. Then, he wanted 150$ for the transfer case when he did finally locate it in the computer. I told him I would not pay 150$ for a t-case that came out of a truck in that condition. He told me the truck was in great shape for it's age. I hung up the phone.

That's why you should now drive over there and walk out to the Ramcharger in person and talk to the guy and offer him less since you know he's got it What year is it? If it has the NP203, it's probably only worth $50 I would think.

I have an idea. You could bottle some of that sand up in a clear glass bottle and paint a picture of UT or CO or where ever it was that you got stuck to keep as a souvenier of your trip. Then paint a pic on the bottle of your Blazer coming up out of the wash. That would be cool. Maybe. :dunno:

Actually I think that's a good idea. The sand idea that is.

The Ramcharger isn't any place I feel like driving to, to find out he won't barter on price and the t-case is missing. I'm more interested in the driveshaft because Josh has the output stuff for a sye.

I don't know why some junkyard dealers don't want to deal anymore. I guess they think that because its an old part it will get more valuable as it gets more rare or something. Don't they realize that it's just going to rot away?

So you're looking for a later model Ramcharger with an NP208 to do an SYE. For some reason I thought you were looking for an older one with a 203 to make a doubler or something.

As for the bottle of sand, you should get someone to paint up a bottle and send it to you. I don't know if you know a member on here named Mike Randall from CA, but he could do something cool and send it to you. PM him. He goes by TheBeast88k5 or something like that.

Should I be considering disc brakes? The guy said it needs pads and if it needs drums also...

I did some reading and most people sounded like you were better off getting a disc brake axle to start.

A G80, or GovLock, is worse than a Lock Rite to me because it's really a limited slip. Plus they never work right and they have a tendency to explode. And once yours fails, you'll have to buy an open carrier to be able to install a Lock Rite since you can't install a Lock Rite with the G80 carrier.

Am I right fellows, or did I mess this up? :dunno:

I found this one. The guy said he would take 325$ It has a g80 locker. Brakes are supposedly all good and ready to go. How much better really is that lock right?

I think you found a winner :deal:

A lock right is definitely better than a G80 in that it positively locks while the G80 only locks when one wheel starts slipping. I say run that rear till it blows and then by that time you might be able to afford a Detroit
