manny your 1 straight up and down person. and you covered this build so far beyond any other anywhere. the way you cover the details, alot of people will mention something small, but you went so far as to even get the small stuff in pics awesome cover of an awesome build, i cant wait to see it finished with the 39.5's on it!

btw i would like to see your cam specs, did you have to put a stall converter in the truck?

I'd bet he didn't have to touch the gas pedal to get rollin with that much tourqe and the gearing in a 465.:wink1:

nevermind, i just read you have the sm465, it took off aweful smoothly to be loping like that and releasing a clutch!

I guess he actually knows how to drive a stick! :p:

Or maybe he just rode the clutch...

im in love with your truck man...i can't wait to give mine hell...im going to start a build thread in a month or two...once i get my D60 and all m ygears and such. badass truck though brother!!!!! 83's RULE!!!!

If it were me I would start with the float level. Pull the sight plugs out on side of the float bowls (do one at a time). when idleing the fuel should be level with the bottom of the screw hole. If not you adjust it up or down by barely loosening the flat tip screw that is on top of a nut on the top of your float bowl. Some gas will come out. Once the set screw is loosened, turn the nut a little at a time until desired float height is attained. Tighten the set screw back down and then go to your idle mixture screws.

Usually what makes one diesel is either the idle is too high or the timming is too far advanced. What is your timming set on at idle with the vacume advance disconnected?

Not sure if the Holley you are running has a power valve or not but if it does, that could be alot of your troubles if it is bad.

The best thing you could do is buy a Holley repair/rebuild manual. Our Advance Auto Parts has them in stock. Might check around locally before ordering one. That way you have pics and specs to help you out.

I no how to tune a holley......put it on craigslist and buy a edelbrock :haha:

Thats how i fixed my holley problem.

Jeeezz been away for a few days and about 20 pages are added to the build. Looking good and sounding good now Manny. Cant wait to see it all done. I'd make a parking place for it in the living room once its done. GIT-R-DONE

Sounds more like its out of time, might just be a wee bit out, doesn't sound like the carb, holleys are picky though, try timing. :)

X2

I'd start there and look at your base timing.

Unhook the vac advance then rotate the dissy clockwise to retard the timing. Only should need a very slight adjustment. This should be done with engine running so you can hear any changes.

Also as far as the carb goes I wouldn't think that the 850 would be unmanageable on the street. I think that its tuned to make the most power on an engine dyno at full throttle. The street is a whole different ball game. Only on a full chassi dyno could you properly tune it for the street.

Manny, generally speaking a tune for max power on an engine dyno will run rich on the street. I wouldn't run more than about 36~38 degrees total timing for street use. Did you change out to the fast advance springs in the distributer? The springs that it came with installed are to slow of an advance, but the faster ones were in the box of small parts that came with it. I'm sure Jahnke knows this but everyone gets forgetful sometimes. Check the float levels....

hey bro...i have a 750 holley and am fed up with it completely...im about ready to throw my 650CFM edelbrock on there and see how she runs...

my holley seems to go into "auto-tune-mode" sometimes and change itself all around....can't get it goin right.

p.s. make sure a fellow 83'er wins. :)
