May Have Pissed Somebody Off

Making some progress. Just got the bumper off so that I could access the rear skid plate bolts.

I'm not very resilient mentally... unbelievably pissed off that I'm out here doing this today. Oh well... ain't nothin to it but to do it I guess.

I was going to take a flat file to that burr but it's probably better to just leave it and slap the putty over top, right? Don't want to get metal shavings in it.

I take the bumper off to remove the tank.
If just the skid plate I leave bumper on.
Why did you remove trailer hitch?

Sadly I think drilling fuel tanks is going to become common!

Sorry that happened to you.

Your patch will more that likely work just fine.

And you can NOT fix lots of newer plastic tanks as there 2 layer . Like a blader inside the tank . This crap will cost owners so much money it is crazy . I happen to pop one years ago on a car i was fixing and a used 1 was north of 600.00 delivered and new was just under 1k order in at dealer only .

I used that stuff and it stayed for well over a year before I replaced the tank. mine was on a metal fitting going into the tank and got splashed with fuel alot. So like others said should last quite a while.

There is this long and thin piece of sheet metal going across the length of my bumper that was blocking access to the rear skid plate bolts. I don't know the name of it, but it fastens with four vertical screws. Once I got those screws off, I tried sliding it backward (almost into the bumper if that makes sense) to be able to see the rear skid plate bolts. Couldn't get it to go. So, I decided to take the rear bumper off. Removing the tow bar just made it easier to access some of those bumper fasteners that are "inner" near the license plate.

Just run a self-tapper in with a nitrile washer and call it good.

Yeah man I think if this patch pops off one day I may try your suggestion or even something like @obijuank5 posted earlier in the thread. Once the skid plate is off, the hole is really accessible and I think I could get a more "serious" fix in without too much hassle in the future.

Today I am going to try and get the fuel that I caught back into it. Need to transfer it from the Home Depot bucket into a jerrycan or something. Should be pretty easy so long as I pour slow enough... lol

I didn't notice before how high up that hole is. Now I'm leaning towards vandalism. I would think a thief going to that much trouble would have drilled near the bottom.

Very good I don't know what metal you encounter. I sometimes forget not everyone has the special sockets and gizmos that allows me to do things w/o removing other parts

Do you not own a funnel?

Martin
I do, just not one that is big enough to use for pouring directly back into the tank. I used a funnel for the jerry can.

There was a bunch of dirt and sediment at the bottom of the Home Depot bucket. I tried not to let too much get into the jerry can. I would guess a new fuel filter is in my future anyhow. Questioning my sanity for trying this hard to save the gas that was spilling out.

I have the skid plate back on but now I'm dealing with a crank no start condition. No fuel coming out of my injectors. Kinda baffling because this is the only electrical thing I had to unhook:

I checked for a blown fuse, they all look good. It would be wild if I already clogged the lines with that junk?

It's probably something simple.

did the trailer plug ground SHARE the fuel sender ground ? ? ?

and a sheet of felt from a home fabric hobby lobby type store will filter gas of dirt and water :deal:

Got everything hooked back up and it still won't fire. No fuel at the injectors. Going to have to dig into it further tonight or later this week.
