that's my kind of offroading though, going places normal cars can't, no real risk of body damage, lots of getting muddy, and pretty good odds of having to hike in inclement weather!

what do you guys make of the fact that on that incline, when I gave it like 40% throttle and then dropped my foot of the gas the engine quit?
just stupid newbie driver error or is the carb due for a tuneup of some kind?

I put offroad needles in my carb and it works much better on an incline. Before I had to keep my foot into the gas at the dunes on a hill, or itd die.

where did you get them Sir Deuling? Negative effects on MPG?
I have the edelbrock 1406 carb. Got the rebuild kit, new floats, and off road needle kits off summit. The needles are spring loaded as apposed to the originals that were solid. I can sit on a hill all day and it idles fine now. Fyi messing with the floats is a pain lol. So damn touchy. And no idea on mileage. I judge mileage by how many gas stations i can pass before i need to stop at one lol. (its not a very big number either lol)
How was the heavy rain in the soft top?

held up pretty good through that and the hail actually. it came with seam sealer that I havent used yet and still the only place I think I got some small drippage was the very front center. snuck its way through the weather stripping I guess. it was just a little though.
got more through the new LMC passenger door seal actually!

what do you guys make of this:
at the beginning of the day, with all temps cool, my power steering works like a champ. as the truck warms up, it gets more whiny and harder to turn, problem is obviously worse at low speeds. taking your foot of the brake and giving it just a tiny bit of gas seems to help.
most all the components are new, but the steering box is not and I can't remember right now if I replaced the PS Pump. fluid checks good and no signs of leak.
What do we think?

griffin radiator is gone, factory is back in, and champion is on the way! I'll make sure I post the results of how much better it cools than factory.

I'd go with the pump, but I've never experienced your problem.

These setups are weird...there seems to be no common failure method. My pump started leaking (apparently from the reservoir "pinch seal") and Blue85 had a stuck valve, and that's just recently.
Unless someone has bound the steering box up improperly setting the gear lash/preload, I don't see how the box could cause the pump to make noise, or how the box itself could make noise.

thanks again dyeager. when I say warmed up, I mean the engine is up to temp and simply trying to turn in a parking lot. if you are sitting still and the engine is warm and at idle, it is extremely tough to turn the wheels. in the morning when everything is cool, even sitting still it's not so bad to turn them.
I will go double check the belt, but I put all new ones on with the engine swap and tightened them. will give it another look.
I might just replace the pump and see if that makes the difference, gotta start somewhere!

radiator did the trick!
Kudos to champion, this radiator fit right in. had to trim the bracket near the radiator cap a bit, but other than that it basically bolted up. before going uphill the 350 would go past 210, normally settling down near the hashmark before red on the standard gauge.
Didn't even get to 210 this time. close, but not quite, and cools down FAST.
Here's a pic! Had to go out and about to try it. You can see it peeking it's aluminumness out from behind the black grill and green support. looks sharp, breaks up the front that was mostly black.
I'll get a better pic tomorrow.

Yeah I might agree that the pump is the culprit if it just cropped up.
Glad the radiator worked! Make sure you treat that thing right...my new recipe on coolant is going to be 30% antifreeze (doesn't get too cold here), distilled water, and a bottle of water wetter. Not happy with how my current radiator looks internally, and I think it's because I was running a 30% AF mix, which limits how much corrosion inhibitors you have in the system. Water wetter (according to them) has the inhibitors in it. *My* goal is to use as much water as possible, since this radiator is tiny.

Right now it's just got the standard 50/50 premix in it. Seems to do alright. I put it in the condition that used to get me close to the red on the gauge and it wouldn't go past 210, so I think that is victory.
Here's a pic of the bumper, support and champion radiator. I think the aluminum looks sharp, adds some depth to the front end.

so keeping in mind that this is my daily driver, what else do I need? On the list are some nicer differential covers, maybe trimming up that rear pumpkin a bit, and those springs for my carb Dueling spoke of.
Also, I'm putting together a small gear bag to keep in the truck, just in case of emergencies and such.

this is my gear bag! there are many like it but this one is mine. so the intent here is to be able to help people along side the highway and to also have some basics in the truck at all times in case I get stuck in something I didn't see coming. This is not the "I know I'm going offroading for a week" bag, but would be a supplement to it.
