Metal's LSx swap; Finally up and running!

Looks like I used the ls plug on the alt. Then run a large gauge wire from the stud to a junction block on the firewall on the passenger side that I added. It's from the 07. Which is then tied into the small junction block on the driver side firewall (factory on your truck). You should be able to trace the wires back on that plug. One of them should go back to the little junction block on the firewall. Trying to remember but I think one went down to the starter and maybe the battery. You should not need the old alt. plug. So all you need to be sure you do is tie into the one that feed 12 volts (hot wire) back to the block. I my have a few pic of how I did it if you need them.

Eh, that is mildly confusing but I think I got it. Just snip the brown wire from the alt plug and then snip the split off from the alt lug and run the main fuseable wire with the circle termial to any 12v battery wire spot.

Here is a pic of the 07 junction block I used. Top right wires go to the small junction block on the driver side. Lower right cable goes to the alt. Lower left to the battery.
Hopefully that helps

So I have the lsx harness setup with the two wires for the pcm to control the alt. I like that setup and want to keep it that way.

Can I take and put my original alt wire and attach it to the terminal behind the plastic box where the lsx alt wire runs to? I am still confused on how to make my stock volt gauge work with this setup.

Looking at your pic I think you should be able to tie your original alt. wires in to that block and you should be fine.

You should only need to keep and tie in the wires that goes to the truck. you can remove the alt plug and any of the wires that go to the old motor.

Altighty, thanks for all the help and pics.

You volt meter still works with just the larger gauge original alt. wire hooked up to power?

Well my mounts showed up lat night. Got them from a buddy who isnt going to do an lsx swap anymore. Seems they sent him two of the exact same plates. :doah:

I didnt even notice till I was going to install the eng. today.

Wooo motor is in

Woooo! Finally got the motor in last night.

I really wanted to run the support brace plates that sit under Clamshell mounts to keep the stock transmission braces. Unfortunately they dont fit. The passenger side hits a spot on the block. I used washers to space out the sbc mount so the buldge didnt contact the adapter.

I also (after many hours trying to get things to mate up) had to slot the trans mount holes up about 1/2" an inch to get my trans to mate up to the eng. I am not totally comfortable having the whole center section Of the motor / trans assy. Not supported. I did re-use the transfercase support rod.

Intake is just set intop for the picture. The 5.3 really does sit low and really far back in there.

I have washers stacked like that on mine and keep meaning to replace them with solid. Good work tho!

fyi stacked washers like that are weaker than a solid spacer .

I figured :( I wanted to use just 2 harded washers or a solid spacer but ace didnt have enough of the thicker solid washers and I didnt know where to get a spacer.

I also figured that washers are better than taking out the whole center section of the sbc mount.

WOOT! got the truck all wired up I believe. I cranked the engine over with the starter.

Got it all wired up and laid out just before the ice storm started in. I am going to try and finish up the transmission mods and fuel hoses / pump this week and this coming weekend. Should be up and running by the end of the month. I also ordered my cross over / high steer parts from ORD.

I am definitely going to need to replace my transmission lines. My dad had them all plumbed wrong (external cooler is last in line, should be first) and they are rubbing against the oil pan on the engine. I am just going to replace them with some AN-06 lines and probably replace the transmission cooler while I am at it.

I am not really confident with the truck oil pan to front diff clearance. It looks like at full bump it might be an issue. I guess I wont really know till I shove the passenger tire up into the wheel well.

Once its up and running, just for fun I plan to take the truck to my local drag strip and see what it runs with the stock 28" tall tires (labeled 31's), 4 inch lift and 3.73 gears. I am planning on DDing it for a few weeks with the small tires just to see what kind of MPG difference the 5.3 makes and then I will upgrade to some 33's. I am still really torn on the 33's vs. 35's. I really want to run some 35" tires but re-gearing is just not going to happen anytime soon.

My 4" lift from ORD is much closer to like 5" or just over. I haven't put a lot of miles on the truck so it may settle a bit more. I will not cut my fenders to make the others fit. At least on the original set on the truck now; I have a spare set that I may eventually trim a bit.

To do AN lines and use the stock cooler in the radiator you will need special fittings.
If you are using it also I will see if I can find the receipt from smiley's where I bought them. I think they are holley carburetor fuel line fitting

I'm glad to see that your getting close to getting it all back together, and I'm with you on taking it to the strip even though I'm lifted on 35s it'll be just like running my duramax just a little slower.

I am using stock and external. That would be amazing if you could fine the part numbers for the stock to AN fittings.

Thanks! Definitely exciting.

Nice! Glad to know im not the only one curious about their 4x4's 1/4 miles time. We will have to compare track times. Granted our final gearing will be different but it would still be interesting to see the numbers.

I am seriously considering finding a full 2wd take out and buying a 70's-80's roller and building up a 2wd DD with a cam and tune.

The 70-80s 2wd would be nice, I've got a 70 swb 2wd and that's my plains after I get done with the blazer but I think I'm going 6.0 with a turbo, I've had the truck for 18 years and the last 5 it's been scattered in different shops.

Cranked it over today. IT LIVES! Sounds pretty bad ass with open manifolds. :haha: now it just needs an air intake hose, coolant, exhaust finished, and vss sensor wired up.

Kind of unsure on the VSS sensor. I bought the dakata digital one and it looks like one wire of the twisted pair is ground? But the 5.3 vss sensor harness uses 2 wires with power?

Well, ran into a minor issue. Fan will contact my air intake.

Do they make a slightly smaller clutch fan? I have a massive 4 core radiator so cooling shouldnt be an issue.

I imagine trimming up the tips of the fan blade would cause balance issues?
