Michelin/Military xl 11.00/16

I was glad at Blazer Bash this year I didn't have to worry when quite a few guys got hassled by the local PD about their tires sticking out of the fenders too far. :wink1:

I would strongly recommend that anyone wanting to run these use beadlocks. The sidewalls are stiff and it's nice to be able to air them down without concerns over loosing the bead.

Here's the pattern I used to groove mine:

ok question, i have done the research and whatnot, but there are so many conflicting opinions. my blazer is a dd and wheeler, right now im living in San Luis Obispo which is close to sand, so i want wider tires, but i dont think i can afford a D60 right now.

my question is which should i get, the 11.00-16 XL or the 325/85R16 XML,

i have to drive the beast all the way back to washington a couple times a year so i need tires that will last and are cheap cuz im now the stereotypical broke college student.

****edit*****
also can the XML's be regroved?

thanks for the replys guys

i know you drive your truck on the street how does it effect the wear on the tires...
I doubt it'll make them wear any faster, not these as iron tires. :doah: I can see where they might chunk easier on the trail.

It did make them much quieter.

mrk5 off topic but been catching glimpses of those bumpers how bout a bild up or maybe some specs?
I made the them with 3/8" thick plate. I cut the angles with a hot knife (aka cutting torch) and used the grinder to smooth the cuts.

grooved vs non grooved...im really thinking about getting a set of theese tires so im trying to get as much info as possible about them...

I haven't yet made a decision about trail performance. But at the very least it was worth the time because they are so much quieter.

I did do the last tire differently and it's how I would do it in the future. Instead of cutting the center lugs at the same angle all the way through, I swapped the angles back and forth at opposite angles.

You're not going to give your audience what it wants Scott? :(
:p:

Here's a pic of the inside of the front bumper before I made the final torch cuts.

I was going to use the receiver type tube with a large hitch pin for recover points, but it was a real pain in the arse to get the pins out. I've since bought some H3 tow hooks off ebay that cover the holes perfectly. No pics yet though.

I don't have any good pics of the rear bumper. It's basically the same as the front without the vertical area.

Both are 3/8" plate.

ok ok back tot he tire thing again....are you running the rear tires in a diffrent direction than the front??if so why??

if i could pose my question again, are michelin XML's also regroveable? im seriously considering some of the 16" rim michelins, cuz they are reletively cheap and ought to last a long time. are the tires safe to run on road after groving them to get more life out of them?

thanks,
rick

The answer to your question is 'yes'.

As long as there's tread, you can sipe/regroove them.
