Mountain Truck Build

I did go with a 33-12 50. In measuring the 285-75-16 its almost exactly the same width and height. Should work the same. Plus the tire that I wanted to run wasn't aavailable in anything skinnier for a 15. Its a must to have 10 ply. The 9.50's that I found were all bias ply or 6 ply.

Pulled the trigger this afternoon to go ahead and upgrade the rear axle. I'm not too keen on the 10 bolt. Went into great falls and sourced a 89 model 9.5 14 bolt semi float. For those that dont know, these are a direct swap. Bolts right in with no muss or fuss. All you have to do is use a conversion ujoint at the driveshaft. Easy peasy. Best part is you keep the 6 lug pattern with m14-1.5 studs. Beefy!!!

Now it has me thinking about the front axle. Utmost importance is to remain at least stock appearing. That and I would like to upgrade the studs At least to match the rears on the 14 bolt.

Not sure what stud size is in the front of yours, but I tried putting m14's in a d60 to match the rear and they were way loose..

Best way to upgrade the studs.

Also if it's a 6 lug 9.5 it requires moving spring perches and shock mounts. As those only came in the newer trucks

This one from an 89 all looks to be the same. spring perch width and shock locations are good for my 82 gmc. I measured it twice today. Ill measure it again tomorrow. It is a 9.5 14bolt of course I want on the other end of the phone with a tape measure either.

I can't remember size but they are tiny. I read somewhere here there was a dorman part number for them. M14-1.5 thAT you could drill out the front studs and install. Ill go back and look for that.

That's a new one for me. Did it come out of a square body or a newer truck.

I just have never heard of the 6 lug being offered in a square. Doesn't mean it wasn't. If it did big time score!!!

Supposedly an 88 or 89 model gmc truck. I won't have it in hand until they deliver it to the shop Friday. Ill post some pics with measurements.

As a neat little addition, he supposedly has a 83 gmc k10 with factory bucket seats and a center console. Same color as my interior. He sent me a couple pics and the seats are ripped up but the console looks good. I am considering picking them up for sure. Although I do wonder about interference with the 4 speed shifter. The 833 shifter is really close to the seat. Does lmc have bucket seat upholstery?

If they don't there are plenty of companies that will.

If ya get em and can't find anything lemme know a good friend of mine does upholstery and might have some leads for ya

I think he said if I came over And pulled them i could have them and the console for 50 bucks. Might pick them up whether i use them or not. To me they look just like suburban seats. Then again i guess they might be the same as suburban seats.

Pickup seats and Suburban front seats are the same. But not K5 seats.

I think you can swap the mounting brackets between blazer and burb buckets. No clue on the bench stuff but who wants a bench in a blazer

Heading down to the shop to work on the truck. Here's what we have done so far.

14 bolt rear conversion axle

Parts needed:
Warn classic bumper
One gmc centercap, one open 4x4 cap
