My 5.3 swap thread!

just a question: what are the extra "legs" on the H2 intake for? seems like a needless waste of plastic.

I THINK they are to try to counter act the sound that the intake makes as each cylinder gulps in air. I think its a way of muffling those sounds by not making all of the air for each "pulse" come through the filter. Least thats my understanding.

FYI, there is no way to get the stock lower radiator hose to work. Going to have to dig around at the parts store and find something better.

I got 1 for the 07 avalanche the motor came out of. Trim a little off the end. Worked fine.

Surprised you are working so hard to get that factory air intake piping to work.

Find an elbow that works, use some of the stock stuff you had, and get creative.

I hate all that air silencing BS they put on there now.

Tried the one of my wifes 07 suburban to see how it would fit. It's about 3" or so to shorter it might work. I'm thinking an aftermarket kit for an earlier 2000 something would work.

Awesome thanks! Just picked up the hoses and a couple more exhaust pieces. Now just need a fan and a couple other random things and I'll be on the road! Far as tys intake goes, I want it to look as factory as possible. I'm thinking a mix of random junkyard parts and factory parts. I like the 05 silverado one pictured above the best so i think i want to try to get one of those and make it work.

I have got a 01 rcsb Chevy with a 4.8. If you need any pics or measurements let me know.

Swap is coming along nicely. Wish I had the time or money to do a swap like this. I have been very impressed with how well these ls motors run.

I had been having a heck of a time opening up the hole in the rubber grommet that goes on the firewall that the wire harness goes through. Turns out, my uncle has a hot knife he let me use! Turned out pretty good. Its a touch on the hack side but i think it will be un noticeable that i ever messed with it when its in and done. Had to open the hole up from about 3/4" to a little over a inch.

When I fish wires through I use an old coat hanger. Wrap it around the wires you want to push through and then use some electrical tape to secure the wires to the coat hanger. Then you can poke the hanger through the groumets. Then once thats inside the cab you can just pull and the wires will follow.

Seal the gromet up with some silicone after your done so you dont leak any water.

That wouldnt work in this particular case as its for the main computer wiring harness so i would have had to thread the computer connectors through their too and that just aint happening. Its the grommet that used to hold the old computer harness which was smaller then the current one. So what i had to do was slice it to get it off the old harness and onto the new one, then open up the hole so that it could close up right around the new one.

Pics or it didn't happen! But really good job, think you will have exhaust done this weekend or do you need me to come over and help? = (Drink beer and watch)

Ha! I dont know actually. I think by the end of the weekend i might have it done but this week is getting pretty packed as far as schedule goes. Little here and little there and it will be on the road eventually. Then i just need to take out mortgage on the house for all the dang body work! Actually, my current "plan A" is when this thing is driveable, i want to stick the 78 in the garage for some much needed love. It gets neglected the most and it just needs a little bit done to it. Really thinking more and more about ditching the 77 but i really like that thing too! Thought as a way of justifying it, i could dump all the money from the 77 into the 78. This way, i could have one decent pickup instead of two marginal pickups. Who knows. "plan A" changes daily.

Hey you could give me the 77 then when you need parts for the 78 I could just buy them for you! just a thought. Help me, help you bro!

While that's not the worst idea I have ever heard, I don't think that will work out. No but really, if you wanted to do it to the tune of $1200 worth over time then I would do it. Heading out to work on the burb for a bit after I finish this first cup o coffee.

Let's play good news, bad news!

Good news, got the gromit in.
Bad news, doesn't look perfect
Good news, no one will ever notice.
Bad news, except me every time I open the hood.
Good news, to make up for it I'm going to clean up some of the not so clean factory wiring on the firewall.
Bad news, I need more wire loom.
,
And that's how we play good news, bad news!
