My 5.3 swap thread!

Nope! Pretty sure my hopes of driving it up and down the street this weekend arent quite going to work out... But im thinking maybe i will here it run with the exhaust on it and be able to let it run for a while sense i should have everything hooked up and in working order. The only thing im lacking at this point is the dad gum throttle cable!

Fairly pointless pic of the 45 pie cut out to about a 60.

Got my modified exhaust piece all welded up last night. Now today I'm going to try and get the.exhaust the rest of the way done. Get the cooling system all wrapped up tomorrow, and i should be ready for a Wednesday test drive.

6500?! Sounds like you need to go to BD Turnkey for a LQ9.

Nice! For $6500 I could buy two trucks and put 5.3s in both! Or, do an amazing show quality job like our good buddy Teck! As for the throttle cables, sounds like there is a lot of options. From a 99 camaro to a 2000 s10, to a 97 chevy pickup. Im going to try the 97 chevy truck route. As for the tach, you would have to google "ls1 tach" to figure it out. Im not going to run one but it is pretty easy from what i have read.

Anyway, i did get the exhaust finished up today. Glad its only temporary cause it sure is hack... Also got the little water line done. That worked out ok but again, i would like to figure out something different for that. It works fine but its ugly. I think i just want to find someone with a lathe i could use to make a 3/4 to 1/4 adapter. I'll go get pics of what i did in a minute. So, with that, tomorrow i should be able to start it up and let it run for a while! Should be pretty cool. Only thing im concerned about is if the alternator is wired right. Guess we'll find out!

As for the 1/4" steam hose. I took my radatior to the radatior shop today. They are removing the 3/4" hose barb and putting in a 3/8 npt bong, so I can use a 3/8 npt to 1/4 hose barb fitting there. He told me like $10.00 to do it. I will get pic tomorrow after I pick it up.

If it's a'02 throttle body [cable driven] it should poke through your factory hole in the firewall and attach to your throttle.
It worked on my '75 and I was surprized that it did.By far the easiest part of the conversion.

I'm not sure yet but I may have more then in the motor and tranny swap.:eek1:

LOL Teck, I would wager a bet that says you have about 40-60k in your build so far! For you to have nearly 7k into wouldn't be surprising. Wish I had that kind of money! I am interested to see how your radiator turns out cause I'm far from satisfied with my solution.
C1090, that makes a lot more sense! Sounds like you got a good girl and your about to have a great truck! I don't suppose I could ask a friendly favor and kinda not do so much of the ....... Stuff could i? No big deal, it just makes your posts kinda tough to read.

So heres the few pics of stuff. First my fantastic weld job... Keep in mind that this is with a harbor freight 110 welder, a whip that wont work at all angles, and flux core wire.

Seriously that's great, I know its more than you planned but your build gives me hope than I can afford to pull it off on my 89 burb.

And your xhaust work is looking good :thumb:

Well i think instead of finishing i'll just go ahead anf push it off a cliff. Got it pretty much ready to hit the road this morning and fire it up. Whats it doing? Thats right! Idling like crap and running pig rich! :doah: Anyway, im getting the following codes, p0480, p0803, p1635, p1639. So i dont know what the difference between now and the last time i started it in the videos but something done went hay wire! Sense the last viseos, i have removed the intake, added the new knock sensors, bolted the intake back on using new gaskets, hooked the exhaust the rest of the way up, bolted up the torque converter and hooked up the cooling system.

OK your trying to deflate my dream... haha I know what you mean. Every project of mine is always ends up easier said than done

The cable operated throttle bodies for 99't 03' that cable should work for him. Not sure if he has one of those years or is it drive by wire in later years.
I have a 03' throttlebody and the cable connected through the firewall and worked on my peddle, and it's a 75'
