My 5.3 swap thread!

Actually, that thought had not crossed my mind. That could be a pretty good option if i end up getting a little screwed. So far, i got a few that im going to call on tomorrow that are $575 or less. The one most complete gets the money i think.

Could be helpful,

Hey, did you try Atlas Truck parts in Hubbard, OR for your engine? My uncle got a 5.3 and 4l60e complete for $900. Might give them a call if you haven't already.

I'll certainly give atlas a call. I just got an e mail back from one guy saying he has an 02 with 83k miles turn key for $1000. That's quite possibly the one I'll get.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't pull the swap off for $1600 all in :D

I bought everything as cheap as possible, but did it in the safest/cleanest manner so I didn't cut corners like some people do with running plastic fuel line repair kits, etc. My total was easily in the $2500 range, paying zero labor and building my own exhaust and y-pipe and buying new sensors for 02 and a few other gauge adapters and senders so all my stock gauges would still function. Not a cheap swap, but boy is it a blast to drive now. :eek1:

You don't even want to know how much I've spent so far on mine.:eek1:

Its not a cheap swap at all, but I have may have gone a little over broad on mine.:doah:

I did a 6.0L swap into a Ford Ranger for under $1500 all in, it's definitely possible if you can do everything yourself and get the engine + trans cheap enough

I just can't see it being all that much. If I do get this turn key motor for $1000 then I have to buy motor mounts, tbss ex manifolds, hoses, flex plate ans spacer, throttle cable, and oil and filter.

Don't forget you you will need fuel systems and fittings, tpi is like 18psi mpfi, is like 55psi.
Air intake system may need changing, some cost for wiring, and a computer tune.

Well I talked to the dude today. Sounds like a cool guy. Going to let me hear it run before I take it. Should be getting it this weekend.

Nice.

Tell him hello. I am going to use him when I get to that point on my 8.1L. I don't have time or the desire to dig into one of these harnesses - and he has tools & know-how to get it done.

Will do! Here is what looks like a handy little drawing of the fuel line adapters.

if you don't mind the question, how much did you pay for the motor?
anything included?

$1000. It will be complete and ready to run. I would consider this the exceptin to the rule though. You can get them pretty consistanylt for $2000 for the type of motor im getting and everything thats included with it. So far, it seems like im getting a really good deal. It will be complete with alternator, starter, power steering pump, all sensors including o2's, harness and computer modified for stand alone use. Seems the going rate for one with everything like im getting but without the computer tuning and harness is about $1000. Truthfully, it seems like a good enough deal that it might end up being too good to be true. So we'll see.

That was my worry about this guy too. He gave me directions to another guy that he had done a swap for. I went and talked to that guy and he said Bosco knew his stuff.

Still buyer beware...! Seems like if he is going to run the engine for you that you should be okay? I haven't heard many problems with the LS engines. Seems that if they go bad, they generally go catastrophically. Obviously you can check the normal engine stuff, cylinder pressure, spark plug reading, etc...

Doesn't he also offer a warranty?

He hasnt said anything about one. I would assume that once i take possession its my problem to deal with. He says that when i get there he will have it hooked up to the stand with his laptop hooked up. He also keeps preaching on about how he is there to see his product through to the finish line and all this stuff about how anything you need just let him know and all that. So, we'll see how it goes. If i get there and stuff is looking like he's a hack, i walk away. Simple enough.

Just looking at Teck's swap again. I assure you that under no circumstances will my swap look so awesome! I dont think i have have the patience that guy has! Wish i did though. His truck is beautiful!
